How to get Traktor S4 to work?

I have an S3 and Traktor Pro 4. I recently bought the S4 from a vendor, License transferred the whole nine. When I disconnect the S3 and connect the S4, Launch the TP4, the S$ does not respond. When going into settings the Control Manager only shows S3. I have downloaded/installed the Windows drivers for the S4 and downloaded the latest Controller Editor/Installed. Reboot the PC and still the S4 is not recognized by the software. Support is impossible to contact.

Does your computers audio work with the S4mk3? Does it appear in device manager? What shows on the controller?

The S4mk3 doesn't use the separate Controller Editor.

There are buttons on the S4 to assign FX units to a specific deck.

The S4mk3 doesn't use the separate Controller Editor.

Are you using the power supply with the S4? Does it light up when you switch it on? Have you checked to see if it on the latest firmware?

Hey @BJQ1972, @red_nick, I figured out what was wrong with the S4 not working, and honestly, it’s a bit baffling. I upgraded from the S3 to the S4 and removed the S3 from my setup, but I didn’t unplug the USB cable that came with the S3. I thought it wouldn’t matter and just connected it to the S4. I pressed the power button, and the S4 turned on for a few seconds, then went dark. Once I switched to the USB that came with the S4, it powered up like it should.

Now I’ve got a new issue: there’s no audio coming from the speakers, even though the level meters on both decks show the tracks are playing. I’m using the ASIO4ALL audio driver along with a Diamond USB External sound interface, and that plays all the sound and music just fine! It's just not working with the S4 thus far. This setup worked perfectly with the S3. I’ve attached screenshots of my S4 and Windows audio settings, plus a snapshot of the S4 with all the knobs set to 12 o'clock. Interestingly enough when I change the audio preference from ASIO4ALL to Traktor S4 Mk3 ASIO, I get sound from the headphones only.

Can you share a screenshot from asio4all?

ASIO4Settings are attached. Upon accessing the Sound Properties, I observed that the level meter for the default device (USB External Sound Device) remained inactive, while the S4 and its corresponding meters fluctuated in response to the track playback. As a test, I initially opened YouTube and played a video, during which the levels on the USB Sound Device varied, and the sound was emitted through the speakers. Subsequently, I launched Traktor Pro 4 (TP4) and encountered a notification indicating that the Traktor device had been loaded for the first time. It inquired whether I wished to adjust the faders to the default settings. I then closed the Browser, accessed the Audio settings in TP4, switched to ASIO4All, and configured the output routing, resulting in sound output.

Looks correct. But I bet the problem still lies somewhere with asio4all.

It's working great. I have rebooted a few times and relaunched the software, and it still works. So I am glad for that.

I had the S3 before I had the S4 so, playing with the S4 I see the difference but some things are hard for me to wrap my head around. In the videos available on YouTube, one can observe individuals manipulating the knobs and toggling switches; however, for me, merely engaging in those actions proved to be ineffective.

The FX buttons located at the top of the interface. Initially, it is necessary to configure the FX within the software (Traktor Pro 4) and select either single, group, or pattern player modes. The situation becomes somewhat perplexing: my configuration includes four FX units in TP4, yet the FX buttons on the S4 only function with FX1 and FX2. To access FX3 and FX4, one must utilize the mouse to activate them through the software. Additionally, to apply FX to a specific deck, it is essential to select the corresponding option in the software by clicking on 1 or 2 for two FX modes, or 1, 2, 3, or 4 for four FX modes. The hardware buttons facilitate the adjustment of FX depth and allow for toggling them on or off. In my experience with the S3, all of these actions were performed using the mouse, leading me to question the significant advantages of the S4 concerning FX functionality.

Yes, the s4 is made to control 2 fx slots. Not 4.

Maybe you can find a mapping that allows you to control 4 fx slots.

Understood. After I got the hang of the hardware, I found myself immersed in the S4 for about six hours without even realizing it. That wasn’t my plan at all. As Janet Jackson famously said, "Funny How Time Flies When You're Having Fun."
