Ask Kontakt 8 creators anything

With all due respect, just make it WORK please? I've paid fortunes on libraries that are now unaccessible. NA shows 270 (269 istalled), K7 shows 13, K8 somewhat 40. It was 100+ just a few days ago. I cannot open my Logic projects anymore as KONTAKT cand find its data (which has not moved in any way).

NI, Pls have the respect for your customers to announce and produce a fix asap!!

Hey @Chayell You semm to have several issues.

    1. unaccessible libraries:

What do you mean by unaccessible? Do you get an error message? Or are they just not showing in Kontakt's browser?

Do Kontakt 7 and 8 have full disk access? How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS

If it persists, try resetting the database:

    Reinitialize the Kontakt Database

    1. Hold down the alt key on your computer's keyboard and click Go in the Finder menu bar. Choose the appearing Library entry in the drop-down menu.
    2. Navigate to Application Support > Native Instruments.
    3. Depending on the Kontakt version you are using, delete the following folder:
      Kontakt 5: "Kontakt 5"
      Kontakt 6: "Kontakt"
      Kontakt 7: "Kontakt 7"
      Kontakt 8: "Kontakt 8"
    4. Start Kontakt as a standalone application (not in your DAW).

    2. Kontakt tracks in Logic:

What version of Kontakt were you using before? Kontakt 6, Kontakt 7?

    Hi Jeremy,
    I did all of that.
I was just using KONTAKT 7, when after an update, my KONTAKT instruments were no longer recognized.
rebuilding the library only gives a partial result.

Rebuilding in 7 and in 8 gives different results -THEY ARE THE SAME LIBRARIES!

I think your dev team failed to test properly. I've been in soft dev for over 40 years - this is unacceptable.

Libraries that do not have a NICNT (.nicnt) file format in their base folder, or they have an old one, usually are not directly accessible. But they are there.

All you need to do is to add them manually by using the "Import Content" button at the bottom-left of the screen.

A window opens, then click the "Add" button and browse to each library folder, one by one, to add them. :-)

It's strange this happens on your system. I have k7 and k8 side by side here and all products show in both, so I'm not sure what you meant with the testing.:

Does Kontakt 7 have full disk access? Have you tried reinstalling K7?

I would recommend to try these steps for Kontakt 7: Kontakt Crashes

Unless you save some presets in Kontakt 8 you should still be able to use the compatible products in Kontakt 7.

Could you give more details please? Which old libraries and in what context? What's your OS, DAW, etc…?

and then you get "incompatible" files or duplicate paths and the library doesnt show in library.
Sorry but the scan/import function is a bit of hit or miss and has been since kontakt 7.
I use the good old rack view because it works.

I never got any "incompatible" files, neither duplicate paths with this method… ever.

Yet, if your way works better for you, then yes, you should do it that way. But the person who asked the question must be informed about all options.

    By the way:

The "good old rack view" does not show old libraries, neither libraries who have only instruments (and not .nicnt files), neither user-made ones… That's why the "import content" button exists.

Go to user library/application support/Native Instruments/Kontakt 7 and copy the komplete.db3 over to the Kontakt 8 folder that is next to it (back up the old one first of course). Then open standalone and allow the library to rebuild

This is the result of the KONTAKT 7 update. My library did NOT change, KONTAKT changed and ****** up. Rescanning libraries, replacing libraries, is only creating more mess. So I have to go check 25k+ files with this ridiculously ancient little popup tool? I have you clean up YOUR mess?

I URGE NI TO ALLOW INSTALLATION OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION. I SERIOUSLY CONSIDER TO SUE YOU.

    Some thoughts…

Have you used the "Browse for missing files" option? Its automatic, you just give it the Libraries location and it will find the missing samples, at least the huge majority of them.

Have you consider the fact that some libraries might be "archaic" and use different format or have different structure so Kontakt 7 can't read them correctly? In this case, the "Batch resave" option might be very useful! It will fix most of the missing content, if not all. Here is how to do it:

    https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/210274985-How-to-Batch-re-save-a-Kontakt-Library

Also, be advised that if you somehow return to Kontakt 6, many new libraries which made for Kontakt 7, will not work and you will get a message such as "Your Kontakt version is too old to run this"

I have exactly the same problem. I’ve carried out all the advised procedures but it still has random libraries missing. Fables is one example so it’s nothing to do with nicnt. It also has nothing to do with incompatible files. It is clearly a random bug. Rescan doesn’t work because it can’t find the library in the first place. Fables for example is fine in Kontakt 7 and visible in new view but not classic. In new view the library picture is there but no files, in classic the usual missing library message. I have a very large collection of bought libraries and around 10% are missing. Something going on under the collar.

@SiGGyMusic @ReasonBeat It looks like you didn't get in touch with support, it would be useful for us to gather data on the issue in order to investigate it and fix it eventually.
