I was also a bit disappointed about them lifting it up in this release. But I understand they did this from newcomers perspective and the misunderstanding comes purely from the original description which they left as untouched although for existing users these marketing words are now meaningless and even downright confusing if they didn't look it up from older releases. If you used the instruments you can seem straight from the image it's still the same old UI for example.

Either way I think Massive X even to this date is still a very capable instrument once you bother to learn it (the NI tutorial video in YT really opened it up for me), and has a ton of great sounding presets to tweak from. But from sound design perspective the UI could use some facelifts, like for example that the waveform displays could be more informative, a lot of the other Wavetable synths are a lot more intuitive in this regard.

I'm afraid Massive X is a bit of a victim of its own complexity, but I think it's still great value in these bundles.

with Intel an Nvidia we always be kept informed when new chips will be released.

i think it is disgusting and rude that NI is keeping us all in the shadows. Not knowing whats going on with Massive X.

when you spend that amount of money on a VST you would expect some updates, feedback, etc....respect to customer at the very least.

NI is giving us nothing, not even a yes or no, in regards to development.

pathetic NI, since i purchased it, as your customer i have the right to know

Massive x along with many other current NI vsti's have largely been left as they were on release. It's clearly an indication that NI are moving away from synth based instruments and are concentrating their efforts on sample based rompler style instruments. For me that's a shame and why I won't be upgrading to Komplete 15. There's far better options out there if you're looking for synth vsti's.

That's my take on it. Also note that battery and Reaktor no longer get main headline, in fact, Reaktor was omitted from the list all together originally.

So what I'm getting at is that if Massive appears as major headline product then it's promising. If they manage to release another Expansion for it, then that would be even better news.

It's clear that Kontakt has been at the centre of their attention lately. Their next will be bug fixes as well as Traktor and Machine by the look of it. So we may not get a more definitive answer for the next 3-6 months at least.

Based on what @Simon_NI said in the recent Community Update, I think it's very likely that Massive X is going to soon "evolve" under the Kontakt 8 umbrella via new "non-sampler" capabilities and the new Komplete Toolkit method to build the UI.

This will effectively bring direct integration of Massive X to Kontrol S3 keyboards!

Fingers crossed for this 'hinted at" possibility.

I noticed today that NI have now changed the wording on the Massive X description for the Komplete bundles. It no longer says "Rethought, rewired, and reincarnated".

That's really not how I read it, I just think they will keep evolving that synth as a standalone VST, NKS integration will be through KK

that’s not what it was ”hinting” at all

Yes that’s what I read too - but the good news is Massive X is not forgotten and synths are still important to NI - it’s not all going to be Kontakt

Seems like a very direct connection to me. The words are blatantly there.. "Use case being served".. "do a "better job of inside Kontakt"…

How could this NOT be what he was alluding to?

    He’s referring to Battery

And Matt explicitly ruled out direct integration for Massive X in their current plans

Simon hinted that the "use case" of Battery would be handled by something within the realm of Kontakt 8. And then he referred to this approach in the context of Massive X's future.

This would NOT be in contradiction of there being no direct integration of Massive X with the Kontrol S3 keyboards. Instead.. Massive X would EFFECTIVELY have direct integration via Kontakt… once it has evolved to function as a Kontakt product.

It's the other way around. He mentioned Massive X first, then Battery. Not only is the order important, because it means there is no possibility Massive X was mentioned in the context of Battery, but further

We've got big plans for Massive X in 2025.

See above for our thinking about Battery and the use case it serves.

This is answering two different questions. And clearly states big plans for Massive X. ‘See above’ is a common way of referring to previous comments and posts about the thing being referenced. Never referring to comments or posts about things other than the thing being referenced. So ‘See above’ is here shorthand for ‘See previous comments about Battery for more information on how we view its future’.

Then this next quote about Massive X shows not only do they think it is important, but there is no hint of it becoming a sampler instrument, and a clear statement of commitment to it as a synth.

Yes, we have big plans for Massive X. The synth engine is second to none, but customers tell us it's really hard to use - particularly as a new user, it can be overwhelming.

Synths are a super-important part of our product portfolio. More to come in 2025.

I'm not suggesting that Massive X would become a sampler instrument, instead I am repeating information from Simon that the Kontakt environment is gaining more true synthesizer functions.. with Conflux as an example.

However, I have just heard from Evil Dragon on KVR, that DSP needs of Massive X are beyond what the new abilities of Kontakt can currently provide. I trust him a a good authority to know these limits.

So upon his expertise, I'll let this notion go.

But it still be fun to see where true synthesizers within the realm of Kontakt will go. And they will have modern, scalable UI's and true integration with Kontrol S3 keyboards!
