Why do imported third party banks have to be 'read only'?

I have several old Kontakt banks I have imported into the browser (eg Scriptorium, Art Pyrite) but for some reason the imported bank ends up as read only which means I can't tag them. That is ridiculous as these are exactly the sort of thing users should be able to tag as they are imported as disorganised list

Also they are marked as 'read only' even if the files are not - if I change them to read/write in Finder it makes no difference

Are these appearing in the Factory library of KK?

Everything that appears under there is always read only. I find Kontakt files painful to even work with for making NKS funnily, you would think it is easy but I just don't use Kontakt at all personally and refuse to make libraries for any Kontakt based instruments. You would need them in the User library. I assume you use v2 of KK for tagging?

Sorry, noted this is in the kontakt thread not KK so assume you are doing this within Kontakt which as I wrote, I don't use so consider this post useless.

Yeah it's Kontakt but I think this is the problem, by default it imports third party banks into the Factory side which means I can't do a thing with them. I would prefer to them to be imported into User then I can tag them if them being in Factory means I can't even do that

Maybe I can temporarily copy them to user then tag them and move them back?

It's pure speculation - but if I was a third party developer and you bought my work - I wouldn't want you messing around in my library either - regardless of your good intentions.

Suspect there are probably many developer/vendor flags/setting/options available when a library is developed for load into Kontakt.

Just like when I get a fancy voiceover contract sent to me in PDF format by a client and I try to edit it in Adobe Acrobat - it is locked down from any changes whatsoever. Seems reasonable to me.
