Traktor Pro 4 Issues

Is anyone else struggling with the new version of Traktor. I've got a couple of terminal issues that are killing my sets:

  • Traktor is playing and then seems to drop into half speed with the playback sounding distorted and terrible. The only way to recover this one is to restart. It's obviously a passion killer to stop the music for 30-40 seconds to restart Traktor and begin again.
  • Traktor isn't syncing my tracks properly - it seems to want to start the second synced track on the second beat of the playing track (the one beat). This throws everything out of alignment and sounds terrible.

…I'm starting to think I should buy a Pioneer…

Using Windows 11, Traktor 4 Pro (4.0.2 - latest) and Kontrol S4 Mk3.

You're not explaining the problems very much, whether they happen all the time, or with specific files, if you know how grids, sync, playback work, no examples or screenshots, if you've tried doing the same stuff on different equipment/cables, or same setup same files and a different Traktor version etc
The second problem I don't get at all, I think you're the one who is supposed to be pressing the play button on the correct beat 😋

For number two, do those track work on traktor 3? Are the grid the same? Is the grid on beat, not sync is of?

Regarding the first issue I think I have the same thing but I found a solution:

In my case, I leave a track running without touching the computer and after a while it does that distorted and terrible playback UNTIL i touch my PC again (move the trackpad, press a key).

The way I solved this is pretty simple: Control Panel > Power Option > Change plan settings (for your current power plan) > Change advanced power settings > Set the MINIMUM and MAXIMUM processor state ⬇️

Setting them like this solved the issue for me (of course I only DJ while plugged in so I didn't touch the "on battery" one).

Let me know if this worked!

Hi folks, thanks for the responses!

On the sync / beatgrid problem - I usually use loops for mixing which are lined up on the 4/8/16 beat phrases. These are tracks that did sync properly on Traktor v3. I am using the sync and quant features so Traktor should align the beats perfectly when you drop in the second loop, however, it appears to wait (which you can see as a yellow / highlighted section in the track view on the second track) until the next beat before starting the second track. Traktor seems to think the closest beat is the 1 beat and not the 0 beat =/

On the slowdown problem - thanks for reminding me about the power settings. I vaguely remember this being one of the issues I've had a few years ago. I also see that there is a setting in windows 11 for "switch off USB devices when the screen shuts off" which was another issue I was having. Yay for windows.

Thanks again, I appreciate the responses.

I agree on the first problem, these things happen usually from a bad usb cable or when the computer starts messing with the power on the ports. Also some MacOS versions caused problems between Traktor and power saving.
On the sync thing, most probable cause is the new beatgrid system. If you hear the wrong result but it's visually ok (downbeat is synced with downbeat, the bold grid lines are aligned) it means those tracks are analyzed ok, but the downbeats are not where they used to be, because new grid markers do not reset the beat/bar count. This is something that the team is working on implementing again, not a bug or something, just the downside of introducing the new system. If that is the case, you have three options
    A. Wait for fine tuning of the grid system in a new update so the tracks can be gridded like they were in T3
    B. Find the problematic tracks and use the grid panel to delete the first grid marker, and beatjump 1 beat forward/back and put the first grid marker where it leads to your loop having the bold line on the downbeat
    C. Disable Beat Sync and use Tempo Sync, so you will just have to press play on the correct beat when the deck is looped

…ah ok, didn't see that the gridding had been updated. Let me take a look and see if I can fix those tracks…might be a lot of them =/

    Thanks again for the responses!!

I wouldn't regrid lots of tracks because it's something that's going to be fixed soon, maybe do the beatjump correction when needed or press again the loop cue number after 3 or 5 beats so the downbeats align again after already playing in sync

The only thing "different" from tp3 and tp4 track should if you manually changed the downbeat (the "one")

Grid should still be on beat when switching after upgrade.

Hi lord-carlos: how does one do this: …manually changed the downbeat (the "one")?

You can have multiple sections with different downbeat in TP4 any more. You can switch the overalldownbeat with the first beat marker.

In TP3 setting multiple beatmarkers would reset the downbeat.

I am guessing that the last know issue listed on this page is the cause: https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017233958-What-s-New-in-Traktor-Pro-4

Grid Markers do not reset downbeat
Traktor Pro 4 Grid Markers do not reset the downbeat as Grid Markers used to do in Traktor Pro 3.

This is a fairly major problem I think - not being able to drop in tracks at the right time makes mixing nicely very difficult.

Anyone know when this is likely to be fixed? …or where you go to see progress of a fix?

It does not stop you from mixing the track in the right time though. It's just a visual indicator for the downbeat

And only in tracks where the downbeat shifts at some point.
