Libraries won't load in Kontakt 6 anymore

What gives, NI?

Some libraries that I frequently used cannot be loaded into Kontakt 6 anymore as the Kontakt 7 Player installation seems to have updated them or whatever.

Namely:

  • Analog Dreams
  • Ethereal Earth
  • Hybrid Keys

They're all loading fine on my old Mac Pro with no Kontakt 7 Player installed but not on my new Macbook.

Completely inacceptable - especially as the performance of Kontakt 7 is downright horrible!

You folks need to get your act together, seriously!

Ok, I could save the libraries from my old Mac Pro. But what if I didn't have it anymore? So, the last sentence of my previous post still absolutely applies.

Or - I (respectfully) suggest that you consider getting your act together and just read a bit:

Kontakt library transition updates from v6 to v7 started last fall. Kontakt 7 has been current for 18+ months now.

    This is not news.

Well, it's news to me as I couldn't instally Kontakt 7 on my old Mac Pro.

However, new or not, this is inacceptable. Add a 2.0 version and leave the old version alone, done (in fact, that's even what's happening, just that the older versions are affected, too).

Also, the old library versions just work fine in K7, one more reason to leave them untouched.

And then, this is just the player version. So, to make use of libraries I own, I do now have to downgrade their playback tool.

And finally, as said, K7 performance is abysmal. So even if I owned the full version, I would still use K6 for all older libraries just because of that.

In the end, there's no excuse for this. It's bad quality control, nothing else (in fact, I'm not sure there's any quality control happening anymore at NI…).

"And finally, as said, K7 performance is abysmal. So even if I owned the full version, I would still use K6 for all older libraries just because of that"

No one is forcing you to do anything - however - just be sure to never open Native Access from now on to prevent expossure to any Kontakt library updates.

ALL have now been updated and all will cause you pain if you are not careful in there.

"Also, the old library versions just work fine in K7, one more reason to leave them untouched"

Not if you are a Kontrol S-Series MKIII user and want to use NKS2 - this was the reason for the updates in the first place.

Anyhoo - K6 is now retired and K7 is the way forward.

To be fair - on modern hardware - K7.10.x is just as fast as K6 ever was - especially when used in Komplete Kontrol - I have no performance issues here whatsoever.

However - if you are still rocking some 5 year old machine - I get it - the experience will not be great.

    Your call on direction here.

"K6 is now retired and K7 is the way forward. And to be fair - on modern
hardware - like I have here - K7 is just as fast as K6 ever was -
espeically when used in Komplete Kontrol."

    A) This is nonsense. I can prove it. K7 is a lot slower.

    B) I don't want to use Komplete Kontrol. It's got the worst UI ever.

    C) I own a working version of Kontakt and working versions of libraries should NOT be destroyed just because I install the K7 Player, period!

Keep justifying that stuff as long as you wish - but it says more about you than about me.

And fwiw, as far as "modern hardware" goes, I have a brandnew fully maxed out Macbook Air with an M3 CPU.

NI doesn't seem to manage coding for silicon Macs properly, Reaktor is performing exceptionally poor as well.

Well - this is happening/has happened - whether you like it or not.

Like I said - your call.

Nobody in the world (regardless of their skillset) can code anything "correctly" for a Mac.

Except Apple. Maybe find out from them why this is.

Each and every other plugin I'm using sees a massive performance boost on my new machine. Just some of NIs work is running exceptionally bad.

What will you be justifying next? The utterly horrible experience of Battery 4 vs. Battery 3? Just as an example…

And I'm complaining because it has happened. For very good reasons. So it might not happen again. But hey, there's always the usual fanboy brigade…

Fwiw, I don't even remotely understand how anyone would justify this.

I have a working version of Kontakt. And working versions of the libraries I have a license for. Next I install the Kontakt player and boom it renders some libraries unuseable without any notice. How would anyone even dare to defend NI on that?

Don't need to justify anything. Don't use a Mac. Used K6 (like thousands of others) but was here when the news about the library updates dropped - so I handled that transition logically and without issue and carried on.

Certainly did not feel any need to complain. Or whine. Or blame someone else.

Whatever you choose to do here - it is what it is. No amount of complaining will change anything.

    "Don't use a Mac."

This is getting pathetic. Where's the ignore function? Can you please just stay out of this? You have nothing to add but super biased fanboyism.

Totally understand that you have a working Kontakt. So then why did you feel the need to update anything?

Did you even read the Release Notes on all those Kontakt library updates where it clearly stated that Kontakt 7.6 (*or higher) would be needed to use the library if you choose to continue with the update? Or did you just assume that everything would be fine and carried on?

I do agree that NI could have handled this way better than they did - but they did try and make up some ground on that with that post I linked. Not the greatest - but better than nothing.

I agree with 99% of what VocalPoint said.

    K6 doens't really work anymore…

You can just update K7 Player if you didn't and then you might be able to use NI-made products.
