Kontakt instruments loaded in ProTools go silent upon playback
Hi all - I'm experiencing something I've never seen before. I have Kontakt loaded to an instrument track in ProTools 2023.12 on OSX Ventura 13.3, M1 Ultra. When I first load the instrument it plays fine. For some reason, now it's as if a preset change is being called immediately on playback and everything goes silent. If I reload the instrument it plays fine again, but if I press PLAY, all gone.
At first it was only the classic organs instrument I loaded, the drawbars all turn off right away and the keyboard map that's normally multicolored by key range just flips to all the same color. I thought it was just that instrument, but not it's happening on everything I have loaded. I'm stumped. I'm not getting any response from NI support.
Anybody have any suggestions?

From my experience, it is better to record the midi map, then to just freeze it so that it can become an audio track.
That way, you should be able to play the original sound or sample.
Plus, you can free a little bit of cpu with freezing tracks!
Let me know if it helped.

When you say "Record the MIDI map" do you mean just record directly as audio every time? That's all well and good once you've finished editing and tweaking, but I can't even do that. I can't get any sound out of it anymore. No program change or control change I've tried has brought it back. I'm completely stuck here.
If you're referring to something else, please explain.
Thanks for your response!

@pdnewman I'm not sure to get the full description here, but it sounds familar, please give this a shot: KONTAKT's Volume Resets When I Press Play in my DAW

Basically making the midi tracl first, then instead of playing the midi track, you should freeze it to convert it to audio track.
That is what I mean.

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't help. I can't even create a MIDI track if I can't hear what I'm playing. I mean, sure, I could create it, but as soon as I press PLAY on ProTools the instruments go silent. There's no audio being generated so nothing to record.
I'm sure there's no program change or controller data anywhere, so I don't understand what could be causing this.

It's ok, sir.
I am sure your issue will be solved soon.

@Jeremy_NI,
Yes, I followed the steps in the article. The controllers had already been disabled, and even if they hadn't, I've already tried changing those controllers to get volume back on. It does, however, seem to be limited to the Classic Organs.
What doesn't make sense is that it seems to be changing presets on the instrument, as all the drawbars go to the full up position upon starting playback, even when no tracks are assigned to that MIDI channel. I tried changing the MIDI channel of the instrument to B1, as it's not even an available channel, and it STILL changed the preset on the instrument.
Any idea how to send a preset change from ProTools? I tried adding a standard program change to the track but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Do you mean only one library is affected? Does the library work normally in standalone? Would it be possible to do a video of the issue and post it here?

It seems right now like only the Classic Organs is being effected. I don't see a video being of any value, because it would basically be a .5 second video showing the following happening. The first image is what the instrument looks like when first loaded. There are drawbars down and a keyboard map being shown. The moment I press PLAY in ProTools it switches to the 2nd image, all drawbars up and keyboard map changed.
If I drag the drawbars back down the sound partially comes back, but not at full volume. The volume control doesn't move, however, so it's not a CC7 issue. Before I start playing I'm able to play the instrument through a MIDI record track, I just can't start recording because the moment I do, boom. Gone.
I don't even know how to use Kontakt without ProTools driving it. Is there a way to run it standalone and still have its output feed into ProTools for recording?

Ok, so this only happens with this library?
Can you check when you right click the draw bars if there is a MIDI CC assigned?
What does it show? MIDI learn and Cancel?
Please check in Kontakt in standalone, it's just a troubleshooting step to figure out if the issue with setting up Kontakt or if it's an issue setting up Pro Tools.
