Symbolic Linking on Mac OS12 (Komplete 14 Ultimate Library)

Hi there, happy new year to everyone.

I have upgradet my Komplete 9 Ultimate to V14. Now there's a lot new stuff needing space. My old external SSD is too small to have everything of the content on it. I have a 1TB system disk with lots of free space on it. Can't I just set the "Content Location" to the system disk/"New Folder" and place a symbolic link to the existing library inside that "New Folder", and install the missing content right in there?

So, I ended up using the Mac Disk Tool to partition the boot disk - I split it in two halfs. Never thought this was possible while running the actual OS from the disc you are partitioning but the MacOS Disk Tool offers this procedure, and it works. Now I have a 500 GB system partition and a 500 GB storage partition for Komplete content. I also did not use the symbolic link because it's not necessary. I just cut/pasted the biggest instrument libraries from the default location to the new storage partition in order to gain space for more content. The I used the repair function within Native Access to set the new path for the migrated content. Now it works perfectly, the library is split on two different ssd's, and with my Maschine Studio I have access on all the content!

Hmm...could you please screenshot your File Management from your Native Access and your disk space inside your Mac?

sure i can! for your understanding: i'm booting from the external usb disk "Blitzi", and "Fixi" is the SSD containing the whole Komplete content. Thanks for having a look!

Of course there's another problem. Though I have already managed to make a symbolic link (using the freeware tool "Symbolic Linker") I cannot place the symbolic link on the boot disk /root, neither from the restricted user account I'm logged in for all daily tasks including audio production, nor from the Admin account. I can't even change the access rights on this boot ssd, not even from the Admin account.

I know I should leave all the system things alone, but the only thing I want to do is make a new folder on the system ssd containing the symbolic link to the older content, and the new content). Do I miss something?

You can have different NI libraries and expansions located in different internal and external storage devices. Just set the preference “Content Location” to the appropriate path before installing every time to another location.

Try not to use symbolic link in the long run if you can as the actual full paths to the contents are stored during installation or relocation instead of the symbolic link path. It will haunt you when you decide to relocate the libraries and expansions subsequently.
