[Guitar Rig 7] Need Help with Setup. Volume very low

Hello,

I'm brand new to Guitar and Guitar Rig 7. I am on Windows 10. I purchased a USB to XLR/TS Cable off Amazon in hopes that I can plug my guitar into my speakers and listen with headphones as I learn to play. As not to both my wife in the other room.

The cable seems to work, and windows recognizes it as a Microphone. But When I "Listen to Device" through the Guitar Rig 7, I need to turn my computer volume all the way up to 100 in order to hear it in my headphones, and it's not much louder than if I didn't have the guitar plugged in as was just strumming it. Obviously any notifications while the volume is at 100 deafens me, and at that high volume I hear a static feedback.

How do I set up Guitar Rig? I'm going to try to upload screen shots of all my setup configurations.

I have a PRS SE Guitar if it matter. The volume knob on the guitar doesn't seem to effect anything with the computer or headphones.

If I forgot to post any information, please let me know

Dear 4jacks,

You can just use the volume setting inside the Guitar Rig 7, or you can just download a free DAW (I recommend Cakewalk) and then use the Guitar Rig 7 plugin there.

It happened to me with my keyboard, and I did just that and it helped me.

You can try it too.

Thanks Milo, Can you tell me where to find the volume setting inside Guitar Rig 7? I can't seem to find it and typing VOLUME into the search on the left doesn't return any results.

That may have been your first mistake - or asking for trouble , not suggesting that your problem is not something that can easily be fixed , I dunno , I just think that sometimes one buys into problems that could have been avoided.

Are you sure that there are no amplification / input type settings/gain on your "USB to XLR/TS Cable off Amazon" ? (Also did you check other tabs ? , e.g. Levels , see your own picture) Else , sometimes problem is that though windows registers the device then it is registered in the wrong manner. To me it sounds as a matter of wrong amplification or as volume not being turned up enough for the microphone. Incidentally , if you are using a onboard Realtek sound chips set on your PC then also check the Realtek HD audio manager for settings ! (may not have been installed by Windows with your driver but usually is included with computer/board manufacturer driver !)

Either way then since Windows registers the device as a microphone then perhaps all that you need to do is to find the right place in Windows and turn up the microphone volume ?

In Windows down right try right clicking the speaker icon , there select open Sound Settings (you also get access to volume mixer there !) , in same place in Windows Sound settings you will also find the 'Manage Sound Devices' and at the bottom find the "App volume and device preferences" , which places you will also find settings options.

Here is the Cord I purchased. It doesn't have any kind of dial or switch, just a green light that flashes when it's plugged in: ((Can't post link, but it is EBXYA USB Guitar Cable 10ft, Gold Plated 1/4 Inch Plug to USB Interface))

I'm not a very computer savy person. I have no clue about Realtek and Soundchips or anything. If you let me know how to find something out, I can post it?

Hmmm , perhaps the issue is the driver picked by Windows ? Also , in the 'Recording devices' list , with that on screen , did you then check to see the amplitude shown by the little green bars ? You see it shows for the microphone on a picture but it doesn't show how many bars for the Guitar when you use that..

I looked up the "EBXYA USB Guitar Cable USB to 6.35mm Guitar Interface" on Amazon and a number of the one star reviews are complaints about exactly the problem that you describe the low volume and no gain setting. (e.g. "The input level is too low, even when the input volume is set to 100%."). Still it could be a driver problem. As for the Realtek HD audio manager then , I am not exactly sure where in the interface there would be settings to check and you not being "computer savy" then I am not sure that it's worth the bother (though you appear to me as you are doing alright navigating your computer). But still it could also be a problem with your Realtek high definition audio drivers Windows driver. And I wouldn't even know exactly which driver that you need to try to install. But with the quality of the audio interface and the feedback given then it is hard even to guess. And harder to say anything if not wanting to risk giving you any computer problems driver wise..

I will however suggest that you at least make a manually created restore point in Windows prior to messing with your drivers, and even a backup if you have the ability...

Anyway , there is a video here that shows the use of exactly that cable which suggests that you use another driver ASIO4ALL , you could try to follow that guide ! : How to Use a Cheap Guitar USB Cable with Cakewalk , and see if that makes it work better for you.

Also cable maker claims to offer CUSTOMER SERVICE , Quote : Please contact Customer Service : support@exbya.com , so you could try asking them..

Else , I am sorry , not having tried any such interface myself and not knowing the exact Windows settings for that then it is hard to point to anything specific or in a better manner than I have already do in the above and previous post !

Dear 4jacks,

You can find the volume effect in the Dynamics section, or just use the IN or OUT volume setting on the top side of the Guitar Rig 7, you know, where the Gate and Limit button is.

Or as I mentioned earlier,just download a DAW and run Guitar Rig there.
