You have to update it - I've yet to get functionality because I'm stuck on the firmware update.

The moment you turn on the device, you will be prompted to register the serial number via Native Access. In the next step, you will be prompted to perform the firmware update.

Reports are that this initial firmware fail is more of a Windows issue.

Anyone stuck at this stage that has a buddy running macOS might consider asking an "update favor" to get over this initial hump.

Just an idea for those anxious to get started!

My initial fun was dampened a bit by Kontakt 7.6.1 not behaving well on macOS. But reverting to 7.6 got things running smoothly and I'm enjoying things very much.

I've done everything in the troubleshooting guide, and that I'm now having to go an pay for more cables (just in case) it not good.

If this doesn't work, I'm close to returning for a refund.

If NI have had my money for over a month, you'd think that would be enough time to update the firmware prior to shipping. This unit came from Germany, direct from NI, so that's a very poor customer journey.

This might come down to units shipped to retailers needing to be opened and updated before shipping to customers... That would be a mess, but perhaps a thing to do.

It might do - but mine was direct from NI, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't have done this, rather than leave them sitting in a warehouse...

You can use it only as regular MIDI keyboard without anything else. The display asks you to update the firmware. After my firmware update failures it still works as regular MIDI but no way to use anything NKS. Komplete Kontrol does not recognize it. And the display always asks for the update.

Hi everyone. I could fix it in the end. I connected the keyboard to my old MacBook Pro and it worked at the first attempt while I couldn't update it both from my windows desktop computer and my windows laptop 🤨

I am now experiencing a new issue on Cubase but I'll open a new thread about that

    Hi Chris

    Don't work... :

"Which computer OS are you on? Windows / Mac, and version number?

In-market firmware updates are a completely standard process. The keyboards are manufactured many months before they reach the customers and advancements in firmware are made, much like standard in-market software releases.

This process will continue in the future as well, as it evolves over time with the software, for example with the Kontrol S-Series MK3, very soon we will unlock on-device functionality like standalone Play Assist (which is currently in development), and will likely require another Firmware update, along with software.

Its more important that we find out the root cause of the issues you are all experiencing (eg: with Windows 11, or various hardware configurations that PC computers are built with, processors involved, etc....as so far its predominately Windows being problematic).

I thank you for your understanding, and please do let us know the specs of your computer you are having issues with."

And the noise of the first wheel?

    Thank you

Mine appears to be bricked. Had the same problem with the initial registration, which NI support got sorted out. But then I ran the firmware update with the KSMK3 Updater (I'm on a Mac), which failed and gave me this message:

So I did just that (power-cycled the keyboard and restarted the app). And now the screen on the keyboard says "Looks like something went wrong". Restarting the keyboard 5x doesn't do anything and now the firmware update isn't working either.

Have I bricked it? Sure seems like it.

    Quote 'trouble shooter' :

Important: If you notice a message on the keyboard display during the firmware update saying "Looks like something went wrong", please be patient and wait until the process is complete. Most of the time it still works!

If the trouble shooter does not help you then you will most likely have to contact the Hardware Support Team.

    Same problem!

Dear NI please, what are you doing? You completely spoiled my curiosity and joy from new hardware S88 MK3.

I've been trying to find a solution for 6 hours and to no avail. My S88 MK3 freezing and can't update.

I thoroughly went through your entire site, I tried everything and find nothing, only frustration. The power cycle is funny too 5x on - off I tried forever and ...... nothing, only wise word from keyboard : something get wrong!

    Wow!

You really didn't have beta testers?
