Why only my drumpads work in Komplete with my midi controller?

Hi,

I have an Akai MPK Mini Mk3 and I downloaded and installed the Komplete Start bundle. I loaded Komplete Kontrol in Cakewalk and no matter which plugin I choose I can only make sounds when I press the drumpads. The keys on the midi controller won't make any sound. If I choose any other non NI vst, it works fine on both drumpads and keys, so I figured it has to be some problem with Komplete.

I'm totally new to DAWs and midi controllers, so apologies if this is a stupid question or it does not belong here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the Midi Channel the KB is transmitting on is the same as the Pads (most controllers allow different midi channels for pads and keys)

Thanks very much, that helped a lot! I was trying to find this setting in Cakewalk, but it turns out it was in the Akai editor software.
