Found a Maschine

I recently tried to set up a Maschine MK2. I have no clue what to do with it. Its been sitting in my garage for years. No clue who bought it. I plugged the device into my PC with a usb and the screen is on…but what do I do with it? It looks like you need a degree to use it! My family has some music knowledge but only with live instruments. I would like to get it set up because I have a you pianist and drummer in my family. I know they could do a lot with it if I could get it figured out for them. I downloaded the Native access app and the Kontakt app but it all looks very challenging. I'd just like to put a drum sound on it so my son can start using it, if possible. Any advice would be appreciated!

For a Maschine controller (such as the MK2) to work correctly, you need the Maschine app, not Kontakt.

Unfortunately, the MK2 is old and not exactly compatible with the new Maschine 3 software, so you need the Maschine 2 app, which is also not available "officially". You may find a second-hand one in our Buy/Sell/Trade discussion.

Or you can contact NI Support, here, to ask if it is possible to provide you with one.

On the bottom of your device there should be a serial number. If so, you can add it to Native Access to see if your eligible for more software of perhaps, some updates.

For the device to work properly you also need to download and install its drivers:

First install this:

MASCHINE MK2 Controller Driver 3.0.4 - Windows 7 and above	Driver		30.04.2014

and then, this:

Device Updater 1.7.0 - Windows	Misc		23.07.2018

If no other option is available, you can still use your device as a typical Midi controller, without Maschine's advanced features and integration of course.

To learn how to use it, you need to download and carefully read the manual!
