Kontakt 7 or 8 - broken graphics (but not black)

It seems I can get items that are Kontakt player 6 to work fine, but if I run 7 or 8, everything looks similar to the following. Windows 11, DirectX 12. I'm not scaling anything to weird percentages. I've looked through the forum and knowledge base. I must be missing an article somewhere.

Looks like a retail Kontakt library running as Demo. This is what it looks like.

What is this library and when did you purchase it? Also remember some libraries require Kontakt Full vs Player.

Would need more info on what you are loading and what version of Kontakt

That library should work in both Free and paid Kontakt according to the web site, assuming it's the Heavyocity product. You say it works ok in K6 player but not 7/8?

Are you sure your graphics card supports DX 11_1? Cards can support DX12 but not DX11_1

Happening with multiple libraries. In this case, yes. Heavyocity. I have this problem with every library I try in version 7 and 8. Even the native instrument stuff won't work in 7 or 8 for me. I can get this particular library to run in version 6 but as you see, not in version 7.

Why does it indicate DEMO? I downloaded the Kontakt player 7 through the NI download tool.

Can you look at the display page of the DXDIAG output and check your drivers support 11_1 ? I'm not sure if that's likely to be a problem, but it's one thing to check.

Did you try this solution ? : You may have some errant data in the resources container. To resolve this, close Kontakt and navigate (in Finder or Windows Explorer) to the library with which you are experiencing the issue. Open the 'Samples' folder, and delete any files with a '.nkc' extension. Re-open Kontakt and open a preset from the library; the GUI issue should now be resolved.

There is a known bug in Kontakt where older instruments have a corrupt UI. Not sure if this is the same problem you're having, but it's possible.

It seems to be an issue with all of them though. I have tried several different instruments and they all do the same thing. Honestly makes me afraid to buy the full version.

There is something environmental to this machine if ALL libraries are going crazy.

Still do not understand when this started. You say you have K6 and then K7 and then K8? At what exact point did things go south?

I love how NI hasn’t addressed this issue for almost a decade. It has been a while since I have had to deal with this but I ended up launching directly from file explorer (file…open with…kontakt). This will launch Kontakt standalone and load in the instrument hopefully with the graphics issue fixed and able to load otehr instruments without issue as well. At that point, the vst usually functions properly if you leave the standalone open. NI…this is an issue for someone at least every six months. Tix your buggy software.

“I love how NI hasn’t addressed this issue for almost a decade.”

I haven’t seen this issue ever - until this post. And have been using Kontakt since 2002.

Had K5,K6 and K7 installed as recently as Fall 2023 and could open any Kontakt library with no issue.

Clearly I have either been lucky or something else is going on.

Interesting. Is this the same issue then as the black screen issue?

The current reports of this issue should be fixed in Kontakt 8.2, which is coming out soon.
