There has NEVER been a product that I liked enough to buy twice.

It really is! But I'm sure Yaron took good care of you.

I can say I'm impressed of the openness of both NI and Akai in this partnership, it can only be seen positively/

I think we should not overreact and make inacurrate conclusions based on these announcements. I remind it is not the first time NI makes integration with 3rd parties, notably there has been a strong integration and distribution partnership with Arturia.

Now here's what I'm asking myself after these announcements :

    • Komplete SELECT will be offered to NKS ready hw buyers, hopefully current owners of this hw too ?
    • Should I guess this means we should expect the plugins from SELECT to be the first to be integrated ?
    • If I get it well, current owners of specific software won't get the MPC standalone edition ? This could totally be understandable as I guess there is some R&D for the integration. If not, are crossgrades expected for current owners ? How about Sound Expansions which I guess require way less work to convert (there are even tools available to automate their conversion to MPC expansions)
    • If I get the MPC standalone version of a plugin, will this also be available for desktop use on other DAWs or do I also need the NI version ?
    • Supposing a plugin gets NKS integration, exists in MPC standalone edition, but I only bought the non MPC one, can I still control this plugin with my MPC ? Does the MPC also get NKS integration in controller mode ?
    • Is the NKS integration based on MIDI 2.0/Property exchange protocol ? If not ? Why ? I mean if NI wants to be more open and wants this to require less R&D, MIDI 2.0 would be a no brainer, especially if NI wants to get out of the "walled garden" concept. I know there is not much controller hw support right now (basically other than Korg's Keystage), but that would definitely convince manufacturers to adopt the standard more quickly.

Gifted, because that kind of cool needs to be heard by more people.

I don't think we should underestimate the importance of having Komplete Kontrol (or something like it) as an intermediary. MIDI 2 should not be seen as something to replace KK but a compliment to it. The last thing I would want is for users to lose the ability to customise their own controls, developers often have their own ideas about a layout that is different from what the user wants (if they think about such things at all). Same thing with plugins having built in NKS - that would be great in some respects but if it meant we just had to put up with whatever arrangement suits the developer then I'd see that as a step backwards. It would be good though to have NKS mappings on the level of the device rather than the preset (something you could do in Kore 2 btw).

I think I like this, NKS should aim to be a standard IMO! Maybe that’s even a reason why NKS 2 renders the graphics on the devices. Or else NI would have to develop KK software with all the displays of third party devices in mind if they wanted to also set a standard for the graphics on the devices in the future?

    1. That offer is for new buyers, not existing
    2. What do you mean by integrated here? Note that everything is already NKS compatible. Do you mean with MPC itself, rather than hosted in Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt? If so - we may continue to collaborate on various instruments depending on how people receive the current offer.
    3. Correct. It must be purchased separately.
    4. No. See above.
    5. It's important to specify what we've done here. We have rebuilt some of our instruments inside MPC using their Sampler. MPC is not running our plug-ins.
    6. NKS and MIDI 2 are not the same, although there is some similarity and crossover, sure. I think the reality is that NKS is more readily adopted and available than MIDI 2. But as with our own new hardware, we support MIDI 2 and stand ready to do more with it as adoption expands.

Thise are great news in deed. We'll be glad to see Roland joining forces as well, specially with their stage pianos that are basically controllers with sounds. Any plans of seeing Roland steppin' to serve or no conversation on this matter has come to light yet?

Still need continued support for Midi CC in Kontakt instruments. Just got the new Claire piano. The Midi CC support is abysmal on the Claire piano compared to some older piano producs. Terrible development if we lose Midi CC for NKS. Support both NKS and the more old school Midi CC.

Regarding AKAI and Maschine. Still want to access my Maschine / NI expansion kits on my Push and in Cubase without conversion software. Explore extended support for Ableton Live and Cubase Drum Rack, please. There should be more money for NI if the Expansions support more platforms.

If a Manufacturer is not mentioned in the announcement, I can't comment.

I'm confused how u opened nks to other midi board manufacturers, hasnt komplete kontrol vst already been able to map other midi devices? I'm not sure what this means

Interesting to see how the Machine hardware develops and what the future holds. It feels like the Maschine+ missed the mark by not having a battery. I jumped to a Push 3 but still own a MK3.
