Just bought Mint and love the sound, but when I drag and drop a midi file, it just gives me pitch information, how do I program down strums, up strums, clicks, scratches, etc.?
By the way I just have Kontakt 8 player.
Thanks😁
Hi @Ross Humphries Editing the pattern in your DAW after drag/drop is only possible harmonically. If you want to change the actual pattern, you'll have to do that in Kontakt 8. Hope that helps!
Do not believe you can actually program/reprogram strums but the clicks, scratches etc all have their own keyswitches - should be able to dial those in via a MIDI editor.
VP
You could also try to use the melody instrument and then program you own strums with the midi notes shifted accordingly. But I never tried that myself and I don't know if that sounds realistic.
I only have Kontakt 8 player, is there a video where it shows how to change/ program patterns with Kontakt 8?
Within a sepcific progression - like say Mint Pop - you use the 4 keyswitches:
To change the available patterns - you can record your progression in real time.
Load Electric Mint into a track on your DAW , hit Record. Hold down C1 (Mint Pop A) and then press any key between C2 and C5 to fire the patterns for Mint Pop A.
Then switch to C#1 and you will get a new pattern (Mint Pop B) and use C2-C5 again to use that pattern. Switch the D1, D#1 etc to access the other two stick patterns in this preset.
You should have no issues doing this in Kontakt Player.
And editing patterns is easy too. I simply loaded up Mint Pop A and grabbed this handle (1):
Dragged the MIDI to my track in Studio One (2), opened the MIDI editor (3) and can edit any note in here - any way I want.
How do I program my own rythms?
You need to use the Melody instrument and draw each and every note yourself.
Thanks, I am using the melody instrument. What I need help with is the click sounds that bring a performance to life, they are on the recorded patterns. How can I program them? I have had some luck with Bb-1, but more information, I can’t find, or is it impossible to reproduce those expressions?
There are some slides etc on other keyswitches (A1,A#1 and B1) in the melody instrument.
Unfortunately - not a lot of them.
Thanks,
We should be able to duplicate in the melody instrument how the recorded patterns sound.
Sure. As long as you are adept at programming - anything is possible. Me. I will just play it live.
That was helpful…
However..
while using Kontakt 7 from with in Cubase (I have electric mint loaded)when trying to trigger the patterns using C1 (not triggering) C#1 (triggering). Can you spot why it's not working?
.
..
You play c1 and it plays c#1 or c1 doesn't play at all but c#1 does if you trigger it? What if you play it live with the keyboard or mouse does it trigger then. There is also a sync setting try to set it to a shorter value.
Hey Roger, thanks for taking the time, appreciated.
C#1 will trigger the correct pattern I want to use, C1 won't trigger at all…
On further investigating, playing live, it accepts the trigger,
if I adjust the trigger note from C1 to D#1, I can see it up dated in real time, nice I know it's working.
So yeah that helped.
If I record in step mode it works as well, where the issue is, if I draw a note in the first instance (without having any record mode set) it doesn't seem to accept it as a trigger note.
Perhaps it's a bug fix? not sure perhaps NI can check it out.
Either way I have a work around for now.
Cheers.
Ok I have cubase 14 Pro and also electric mint, I will try with some drawn notes. Have you tried to set the parameter I mentioned on the playback page, try another sync setting for example?
Edit: i tried and it works here, i have set pattern sync to start on key
