Kontakt Libraries on External Hard Drive take forever to load

Hi everyone,

I started trying to install the Kontakt libraries on an external hard drive by changing the "Content" folder in Native Access. The libraries seem installed and working but they take so much longer to load and to select instruments that they're basically impossible to use at this stage (compared to the libraries still saved locally). Does anyone have any solution to this? Many thanks !

You did not specify what type of external drive you are using, what computer or what OS - but no external has the capability to keep up with an internal drive - especially if that drive is NVMe (or even SSD) when connected directly to the computer motherboard.

Your solutions are to get a machine with the ability to attach more internal drives - or upgrade your current internal if it is low on space. If this is an Apple scenario - you may have no other choice.

Hi! I'm using Mac OS Sequoia 15.2, the hard drive is this one: WD 4TB Elements portable external hard drive, USB 3.0 interface, portable external storage, Plug-and-Play, SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1, Formatted for PC and Mac, Black

Mac is a Macbook Pro 16 Inch Nov 2023, 64GB memory 1TB storage M3 Max chip. Thanks !

Yeah - would not expect any miracles from a consumer grade WD drive like that. Especially via USB.

These WD drives are great little backup drives etc - but they are just OK for audio use - as you have already seen.

You will need to adjust your expectations as there is no way for that drive to give you the same kick that your internal Mac drive will.
