Remapping Play button on Kontrol X1 MK2

I'm trying to set up a hotcue mode on my X1 Mk2 similar to my old X1 Mk1. I've set up a modifier to control the mode and set the Play button to select/store hot cue 8 when the modifier is active and this should override the factory mapping. THe hot cue function works fine but it doesnt overide the Play/Pause toggle!
Ive tried fiddling with lots of different settings, Ive also downloaded some other maps from DJTT that have the play button remapped and they work fine and I cant see that Im doing anything different, but I just cant get it to work.
Anyone got any ideas?
