Intermittent, unpredictable tech problem wth S4 – what can I try?

Just once in a while – commonly after I've imported a bunch of new tunes, but not always – the S4 will freeze, ignoring all button pushes etc, but the software keeps playing.

I've seen a number of people with the opposite problem (music stops, controller still looks like it's playing ball) but not this.

Can you think of anything I can try to make this issue go away?

M1 Macbook Pro. 16GB RAM, plenty of disk space available. Sonoma. Current build of Traktor 4.

how is everything connected, do you use usb hubs for example?

Oh, good point. Yes - it's connected to the MBP via one of these (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CFWX61HL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title) . If/when it happens again I'll try jacking the power out & see if that helps.
