Is it the connector or the cable? You could try with a new cable before messing with the connector.

It's the connector. I inserted a new cable as well as my s4mk3 cable and both are still wiggly.

Interestingly, the s4mk3 connection port is made such that the metal connector as well as the plastic rectangular sheating can both be inserted creating a rather stabilizing snug fit. Basically, the cable goes into the s4mk3 unit further, whereas only the metal connector can be inserted into the s2 port.

There are some YouTube videos on how to repair it. I tried but wasn’t successful (controller still works but problem not fixed).
Find some electronics repair place to do it for you or send it to NI for repair.

I found a temporary workaround on Facebook which involved the use of velcro strips. A strip is glued at the top of the unit which the other goes around the end of the cable. Once connected with the velcro strap the cable is then secured.

    I have to say ....

I 've got quite some background and doing PCB Repairs, Chip & IC Replacement, Desoldering with Hotair, IR-Reflow Stations, etc ... I know it's easy to open my mouth then, but nevertheless:

At least for the older add-ons, like the X1 (mk1&2) and the F1 and Z1, i can assure you that it's really not a big deal, there's plenty of space on the PCB  its only some encoders, 5x5 tactile buttons and a few 8bit Shiftregister-ICs.......and Air!

The PCB looks clean and plain like a golf course and the part to be replaced is huge, so no fiddling around.

As long as you can hold a soldering iron and know where the dangerous end is, you can solder the thing in. The more important thing is to get the old USB Port out properly and then clean the solder pads with desolder wick and IPA, so that the mount-holes in the Pads ar free from old Solder, so you can then place the new part flat on the PCB and solder it on.

So if you don't have a buddy who can help you out then watch some basic videos on how to solder/ desolder through-hole components and practice a bunch.

Rule No. 1: Always, Always use Flux hen hen it will all go by itself.

Lastly you want to clean the Solder/Flux mess with plenty of isopropyl alcohol, a soft toothbrush and some Q-Tips and Paper Towels.

Watch beginner soldering courses on youtube

    Get yourself some Desolder-Wick,

    1x syringe with NoClean Flux,

    Some Isopropanol 98%,

    A Sodering Iron

(These Amazon Starter-Kits with all the stuff you need like, Flux, Wick, iron, Tweezers, etc. will do)

Uhm just in case you live in Germany near Frankfurt: ..i could fix it for you, takes only 10-15 minutes.

    Good Luck & Cheers

    Frank

X1 MK2: USB Port was almost ripped of the PCB.

I was stoned hangin in a Chair with the Controller on my knees.

Somehow I fell to sleep - and the Device fell to the concrete, of course - with USB Port ahead and the damn cable was still plugged in ...

    Fü**k
