Maschine + Logic = still forced to use midi mode?

Its been a few years since I last tried so I'm wondering - do you still have to use the MK3 maschine controller in midi mode when using maschine inside logic, or can we use the controller in all its glory now?

If I'm not mistaken, the MK3 and Mikro MK3 both have basic transport functionality in Logic and maybe some additional Mixer controls mapped as a default template in midi mode.

Was a relatively recent update from Apple (within the past few years???).

There is also a PLUG-IN and Instance feature that allows you to swap between controlling Maschine software as a plugin in Logic and Logic transport controls. This may require setting up a template. I'm not too sure and I usually use my M32 to control Logic transport controls with the Mikro MK3 used solely for Maschine software as a plugin through Logic.

    Here we go:

    MK3 in Logic

Unfortunately, at least the last I checked, my Maschine+ does NOT have this functionality. Only the MK3 and Mikro Mk3…

Using the Maschine hardware to control Logic, while also using it to compose or create ideas is pretty hard work. You basically have to go through instance control every time you want to have any control over Logic's transport functions. Far, far, far simpler to just press the spacebar to start Logic.

Maschine does have some benefits when it comes to post-creation mixing. Especially the initial volume mix. Then you can use the hardware entirely in 'Transport' instance to both control the playback of your track and to mix the volumes of your tracks. This gives a nice, hands on method of managing volume control and lets you focus on what you hear rather than a display.

Depends on what you want to do exactly… @DiosGnosis is talking about transport only or "DAW Control" for example.

I dont quite remember if it's possible to record from the Controller directly to the Logic Track without MIDI Mode or not but nothing changed in this context from Maschine 2 to Maschine 3.
