Hi,

I am trying to set up my M+ standalone to respond only to notes from a specific MIDI channel, but would still like to utilize its "Focus" feature. Is there any way to do this? Or is my only option to use a static MIDI target for my group(s)?

A similar thing can be configured on an Elektron instrument, by setting the AUTO CHANNEL to a specific MIDI channel. This will make whatever notes are being sent to this channel to trigger on the focused track.

I assume you want to use the M+ as a sound module to be controlled by an external keyboard or sequencer for some of the sounds, while still using the Pads and internal sequencer for some other sounds.

You have to:

select the Pad/Sound which should receive the incoming MIDI
select CHANNEL > INPUT > MIDI (on Page 2)
change SOURCE to "USB MAS+" or "Maschine Plus MIDI 1"
- you may need to active the MIDI In/Out in SETTINGS > MIDI > Input Devices
change CHANNEL to the desired MIDI Channel
depending on your needs, you might want to change THRU to Off

Nope, I'd like to be able to retain the "Focus" behaviour of M+ but filter out MIDI so it would only listen on a specific MIDI channel. Without the focus mode, I'd have to manually map every project's key groups/sounds individually, which isnt ideal in my case.

yes. AFAIK, this isnt possible in M+ standalone.. would come in very handy! Now I need to use a separate keyboard for M+..

In the manual Focus is described to always receivew all Channels from all active Ports. Nothing else to be configured. Regardless of using the desktop application or the M+. Bummer.

I actually have one of those, but not sure how I would program it to sidestep the issues on M+ end..?

Oh yes, do you mean I should just program the cable to only pass MIDI if it is sent from the correct channel? That could actually work! I would first send MIDI from my keyboard to target synth 1, then from its MIDI THRU port, attach the RK002 cable and connect it to M+ MIDI IN.

Thanks for the idea, I'll see if I can get it implemented into my setup.

Happy to report that my original (as in, doesnt have the orange end) RK-002 I bought for my volca sample has been repurposed to act as a MIDI filter, via the "DUY-MOD Firmware" available in the DUY Ecchange. Works like a charm! Regardless of what MIDI data goes in, clock and transport data get filtered, and note / CC data only goes through via MIDI channel 16 now. So I can switch my MIDI keyboard to channel 1-15 for playing other instruments, and Maschine+ will listen only to channel 16, so focus mode is back on the menu!

Thanks again @Andy Wt for the tip - never crossed my mind the RK-002 could do it! I stopped paying attention to its development after I stopped using my Korg volca sample..
