Setup with X1 MK3 and Z1

According one picture on the product page of X1 on the website you should plug in Z1 to X1 using USB, and X1 to your computer. See below.

According another picture on the product page of Z1 on the website you should plug in both Z1 and X1 using USB to your computer. See below.

My question is, which one is the correct setup?

    Both are, though the second setup is a little bit safer, since you can disconnect the x1 without interrupting running audio.

    Note: the x1 on the second picture is a mk2, which has no usb hub anyway, but it also works with mk3 of course.
