Second Hand ebay purchase Traktor S4 MK3

I bought a controller on Ebay, so no transfer title, I emailed and sent messages through NI a month ago multiple times to get a transfer so I can register my controller. Theres no support at all here! Help 😭

Do I need to register it to be able to use it? It doesnt seem to want to connect to my mac, though it did once! But I couldnt get my free traktor DJ program to recognize it

Usually you should get a licence transfer ID from the old owner. If there is no way of obtaining the licence transfer ID you have to contact NI support. You will need a proof of purchase and a picture of the serial number on your hardware in this process.

Log into you account on NI website and follow these steps:

Native Instruments site → Support → Purchase & Account → Account Support → (scroll down) Contact Support → Contact NI Support

1 Do you need help with the activation or installation of a product? This question is required.* → No

2 Is your question about License Transfers / 2nd hand purchases? This question is required.* → Yes

3 We have collected all info around 2nd hand purchases in this overview. Please click below to find out more: This question is required.* → That doesn't help.

4 OK. Are you a buyer or seller? This question is required.* → Buyer

5 Have you received a License Transfer Token? This question is required.* → No

6 Have you bought it from a shop (Guitar Center, Sweetwater, Thomann, etc.) or from a private person (Ebay, Facebook, etc.)?This question is required.* → Choose whatever is true… The next steps should be more or less self-explanatory

There is no support email, you have to use the chat on the website.

You don't need to register it to use it. It should work out if the box with traktor 4, also the traktor 4 Demo.

It will not work with the old and dead traktor. 2 dj.

Oversaw you already have Traktor Pro 4 installed. In that case it just should work.

Even if some of the following questions are pretty basic and I am sure you already checked some of that, these come into my mind if I had to troubleshoot myself:

Power adaptor connected to your S4 Mk3? Did you power up your S4 Mk3? Does the S4 Mk3 light up? Is the cable you use a USB 2 cable? Do you use a USB-C to USB-A adaptor? Do the adaptor and/or cable work with other devices? Is the S4 Mk3 recognized by macOS? (Can you select it in system settings as audio output?) Do you have another computer? If yes: Does your S4 Mk3 work with the other computer?

You wrote FREE Traktor DJ: Are you sure that you use Traktor PRO 4 and not Traktor DJ 2? S4 Mk3 isn't compatible with Traktor DJ 2. Traktor Pro 4 isn't free you have to buy (or NI hardware that includes it).

As others have said, it will work without registration but if you want to be able to register it to your account, you are going to have to ask the previous owner to transfer it. I have at least two devices which I have purchased, all above board, but the previous/original owner would not or could not transfer the serial number to me. One of them, a Z2, seems to be unknown and NI attempted to contact the original owner with no luck, so it will forever be registered to them and not me. Even my proof of purchase was insufficient. Annoying but understandable. Nowadays, if I want to buy a pre-owned NI device, I ensure the seller is willing to transfer the ID to me.

I was just using a USB-C to USB cable, not a USB 2, I will try that!
When I wrote This I only Had the free one, but I just Purchased the Pro 4 to see if that would change things. I dont Have another computer, thank you for your suggestions!

USB-C to USB-B cables support most likely at least USB 2. Old USB 1 cables would be a problem. But trying another cable is always worth trying.

I use a DJ Techtools USB-C Chroma cable with my S4 Mk3 and never had issues with my MacBook Pro.
