Does VST 2 still work with KK v3 and if so, anyone know when it will be phased out?
Hi there,
Understand VST 2 will eventually be phased out for KK v3. When is this likely to be phased out? Understand there is (was?) a way of copying the VST 2.dll file back into the folder? I am currently running 2.9.6 and afraid that I will have to go through 100s of projects and replace VST 2 with VST 3 because it will be phased out in KK and that is why I am refusing to upgrade. ..It is also prohibiting me from upgrading to KK Mrk 3 keyboard (which I really like to be honest!) Does KK v3 also work with windows 10?
Does VST 2 still work with KK v3 and if so, anyone know when it will be phased out?
Kind regards,

Yes VST2 does still work with KK3 if you mean does it host VST2 plugins. It doesn't have a VST2 version itself though.
On Apple Silicon Macs there is the complication that VST2 plugins are not supported anymore by Steinberg on those systems, they still work but for KK3 to host them it needs to be run in Rosetta mode, but the same is true for KK2.9.6. However one difference is because of this KK3 does not by default add the path to VST2 plugins in the plugin manager, you need to add it yourself.
I don't think anyone from NI has said anything to imply it will be phased out. Again on Mx Macs at some point I think Apple plan to drop Rosetta 2 but they have not said when and it is still in Sequoia (in fact they improved it so I don't think they plan to phase it out anytime soon)

Thank you for your speedy reply, Kymeia! No - not host VST 2 plugins, It's understanding if KK v3 still comes as a a VST 2 - see attached image -NI are saying it will phased out in coming months, but shows instruction in how to get KK v3 working as a VST 2 post installation.

It doesn't come as VST2 on Mac already, going by that screenshot it looks like not on Windows either, not entirely sure about the phasing out but it seems to be saying the current installer removes the VST2 version from previous installs so if you want to keep it you have to backup a copy then put it back, but even that option is not going to work indefinitely
