Komplete 15 or Kontakt 8 alone ?
I bought komplete 14 ultimate and in the past few months I spent about $500 in NI software that is included in komplete 15. There's not much I'm interested in regards to instruments and expansions, since I got almost everything I really wanted that was released unless I upgrade to the collectors. I sent an email asking for a voucher, so maybe it would be worth it, but I received a negative answer. The only thing I really want is the new Kontakt upgrade with the new features. You who have experience in previous upgrades, how much do you think it would cost for the upgrade from kontakt 7 to kontakt 8 ?

Well, it depends of course, on how much NI will charge for Kontakt 8 by itself.
Kontakt 8 isn't listed for sale yet, so for now we can only go on what Kontakt 7's prices currently are.
But let's do it. Worst case, we're off by 10%-30%, right?
I'm rounding up to whole $10 increments just to make this easier to think through. And I'm using US Dollars. Convert if you need to.
Okay, so the current price of Kontakt 7 is $300. It's currently on sale for half-off, which is $150. I would guess that Kontakt 8 could be priced anywhere between $150 and $300.
Your upgrade from K14U to K15U is priced at $400 (if I'm reading my screens correctly). For that $400, here's a list of all the new stuff you would get:
- Action Woodwinds
- Alicia's Electric Keys
- Choir: Omnia Essentials
- Conflux
- Electric Keys: Diamond and Phoenix
- Guitar Rig 7 Pro
- Kontakt 8
- Schema: Dark and Light
- Session Bassist: Icon Bass, Upright Bass
- Session Guitarist: Acoustic Sunburst Delux
- Session Percussionist
- Session Ukulele
- Spotlight Collection: Ireland
- Vocal Colors
- Ozone 10 Standard
You would also be getting these libraries:
- Bazzasian Tapes
- Bouquet
- Duets
- Feel It
- Glaze 2
- Homage
- Karriem Riggins Drums
- Nacht
- Rudiments
- Saffron
- Sway
- Utopia
I did not bother counting the Maschine libraries, and I also counted Session Bassist items and Electric Keys items as 1 item each (so 2 instead of 4). So that's 27 "things" for $400. If you have none of those, then they would be costing you $15 each. If you already have 10 of those "things", then it would be costing you $23.50 for each of the "things" you don't already have.
So here are your choices as I see them:
- Pay $400, get everything, and go spend your time doing something other than reading the rest of this post… haha!
- If Kontakt 8 gets priced at $300, then K15U will only cost you $100 (or 33%) more than Kontakt 8 by itself. You get to decide if Kontakt 8 is better by itself for you or not.
- If Kontakt 8 gets priced at $150, then K15U (and all of those things extra listed above) will cost you $250 more than Kontakt 8 by itself. You STILL get to decide if the additional $250 more would be worth it or not.
There are probably a hundred ways to think this through. But in my opinion, it's probably worth the upgrade to Komplete 15U unless you already own more than 10 or 15 of the things I listed above. Just my opinion.
Bear in mind that some of my math might be off a bit, but I still think I'm mostly on target for you to be able to think this through.
Good luck on your decision!
