Playing Battery 4 and music through laptop at the same time

I have a drum pad connected to my laptop and use Battery 4 to control the sounds playing out of the laptop to speakers. I want to play music at the same time to play with, but when Battery is running then no other applications will play sound. Specifically, I’ve tried playing music from Apple Music and from a website using Chrome and there is no audio coming from those when Battery is running. Audio from them works when Battery is not running. What am I doing wrong?

You didn't give any OS info . But supposing that you are using Windows then this is usually happening because the application (e.g. Battery 4) is using a driver (usually ASIO of some kind) that grabs exclusive access to the audio. If you want to have e.g. browser sound also (which is what people usually complains about , e.g. Youtube) then you need to use the Windows WASAPI sound driver that will allow for more other programs to use the driver. Please notice that sometimes for sound to work then Windows sound settings also needs you to uncheck the 'allow apps to grab exclusive access to driver'. But generally then use WASAPI driver for applications and check your Windows audio settings.

Thanks for the quick responses. As is usually the case, I found something on the WASAPI settings not long after I posted this last night and then changed that setting this morning just before I saw the responses and everything's working great now.

    You could try the following:

Disable Exclusive Mode in Windows Sound Settings

    • Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray and select Sounds.
    • Go to the Playback tab, select your active audio device (e.g., your speakers or headphones), and click Properties.
    • Go to the Advanced tab.
    • Uncheck both options under Exclusive Mode:
    • Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device
    • Give exclusive mode applications priority
    • Click Apply and OK.
