Please allow linking of externally generated stems files

I’ve already suggested it in some threads but I’m making it formal here to make sure the dev team sees it!

In Traktor 4, you generate a stem, and then it is linked to the song. This is extremely useful as you only have one entry, can drop a double in another deck to switch easily from the separated stem version to the original, or vice versa, and the stem and original share a common grid and cue points.

There are other softwares that allow generating AI separated stems, like NUO, stemgen, etc. Those apps affords more options, notably lossless stems and better sounding separation algorithms. They can also batch process files. Some of us also already have large libraries of generated stems.

It would be nice to allow the user to link a song to an externally generated stem file, in the same way that a song is now linked to the Traktor generated stem.

This can already be done by hunting the Traktor generated stem file in the Traktor stem folder, copying the name, and replacing the file, and it works perfectly, but is of course quite an hassle.

My best guess is thus that this should be fairly trivial to implement, and very useful for power users. It would allow more choice and customizability, and will help small developers in the Traktor ecosystem stay relevant.

Thanks!

Probably easy enough to implement. The tricky bit would be ensuring the analysis / grids / cue points all lined up between the two versions.

I don’t think two versions, that is the Traktor generated one and the external one, would ever be needed.

I just want Traktor to load my stem instead of its own. If I went to the trouble of replacing the Traktor generated one, it’s simply because I want to use the other.
