Komplete Kontrol (Worse Update)

I think Komplete Kontrol was much better before the update. For example: When you load a preset, the corresponding plugin is loaded. However, the column for selecting presets is gone. You have to click through the top to get to all the presets, or the presets from the plugin. That was the reason why I liked Komplete Kontrol so much. Now I could actually load Kontakt too. Isn't it the same after the update?? Please fix this. Why else should I buy NI products if I have to downgrade Komplete Kontrol?

Yeah, everything you say has been what most of us existing users have been saying for the last 9 months. The design is terrible and less functional than before taking a good thing and destroying it completely. Feedback so far is basically "well, this is how it is now so get use to it…". No plans to change it and even if there was it would take NI literally years to even get to it, they are still battling to allow users the ability to do the basics with the new keyboard like configure MIDI…. on a MIDI keyboard…

If you do not own an MK3 keyboard, you are better off sticking to the V2.9 release like the rest of us which you have likely already figured out.

I personally prefer the new interface. Although it's different and you do have to go back to the preset listing, at least you can audition it before changing to the new preset. Previously you just selected it and it had to load in order to hear it. Now you have the full list categorized and you can audition as many different ones as you want before selecting the one you want to load. It's much faster to find the one that will work best.

The interface is ok at best should've had a different one for kontakt and komplete kontrol since it host both kontakt libraries and plugins.. searching and loading on kk software is slow and clunky at best.. remove the instance button.. play assist is incomplete. The whole release is beta.

That's not been my experience at all. The load time for KK is about 2 seconds. Loading an Ashlight preset is around 4 seconds. But it all depends on the complexity of the library. Action Strings ARP presets take around 9 to 10 seconds. Of course the samples on all libraries play immediately so it's pretty quick to audition things then select and load it. Since I don't really use play assist I can't speak to that functionality. But pretty much everything I use is quite smooth and never really slows my work process down at all. I've been using it with my S88MK3 since January roughly 20 to 30 hours a week with Ableton Live 11 as my DAW and haven't really struggled with anything on any of my projects.

    Completely incorrect!

The browser use to work in the same way but the preset browser was on the left side in a single compact column which you could QUICKLY scroll through smoothly with the up/down arrows and would play previews without having to load the preset at all while also viewing and controlling the loaded plugin.

If you found a candidate you could then load it and see what plugin was loaded, adjust things and proceed to load a different preset if you wanted all without having to move the mouse across the screen and constantly reopen the browser or plugin window. It is 100% not faster to find sounds, the way the filtering works is no different.

For how many years did you use KK previously before V3? By the sound of it you have not used KK before the current version, at least not for years so as to know what the workflow is like. V3 will appeal to new users that don't have preconceived expectations and that is what NI aim for, as long as new users take the bait that is all that matters. Certainly nothing existing users have said seems to matter at all. This still doesn't change the fact it is a far less functional and less efficient browsing experience than it was, yes it works but for those that know, it is just not as nice to use

You're exactly right. Prior to getting my S88MK3 the vast majority of the time I used Kontakt 90% of the time rather than Komplete Kontrol. Now that's generally reversed and I'm quite comfortable with the workflow using my S88, mini wireless PC keyboard and trackball mouse to work on my projects. I have a S49MK2 but I never felt that comfortable running projects from it.

    As I thought.

People who are new to the eco system (as in new to using KK on a regular basis) will obviously not have the prior knowledge of just how efficient and simple the browsing was (putting aside how the GUI appears or the lack of resizability). Imagine in Windows if you lost the sidebar in your explorer window and every time you wanted to browse for anything or switch a folder you had to minimise everything then open a new folder instead of just clicking the drive/location to go to. That is basically how stupid the browser is now compared to how it was. Also, imagine instead of your files being listed in a nice vertical list as you have liked to browse for 10 years, it was also changed to column view and you now have to scroll sideways through files instead of down and you cannot change that at all…. Also, now because of these columns, long file names no longer show properly so you get a mess of truncated names…. It's so much less functional.

Progression should improve on past proven technology, add new features and function while retaining the proven workflow. V3 is the complete opposite of good design, rather deciding to take a functional wheel and reinvent it into a square while then adjusting the whole track system to suit the new square wheel.

Complaints around this have been consistent and just like this thread, continue to appear from users who have not kept up with the forum chatter and every complaint sings the same tune so either we are all wrong and insane on the same level, or there is a damn point that should be considered and acknowledged.

Just offer some options! Let us select if we want this new browser layout or if we want a "classic view" like we have in V2 that is clean, simple and compact right alongside the plugin window. A pipe dream I know, to offer users some custom options as if they matter.
