Kontakt 6.7.1 Consuming all RAM, crashing computer

Hi Guys,

Today, I updated kontakt from version 6.6.1 or 6.7.0 (I cannot remember exactly which it was) to 6.7.1, and my VEP template on my main rig that only uses around 30 gigs of RAM is now fully saturating my RAM and crashing my computer.

I have tried it with both 64 and 128 gig configurations, and kontakt, while it only shows 5 GB in use between 6 patches, will use everything that is in the system. The rig was working perfectly fine until I accidentally updated Kontakt.

If I go in and set a global purge within each instrument, it will halve the ram usage: 64GB to 32GB, 128GB to 64GB.

Nothing has changed within Kontakt's options. I thought, maybe, the preload size got adjusted, but it is still set to 60 kB. Additionally, if I close out of VEP or Cubase, it does not appear that all of the RAM used by kontakt is correctly freed from the system. My rig usually idles around 6-8GB, but it will be stuck at 20GB until a system restart.

Unfortunately, it appears NI has changed their methodology of contacting a support agent, but is there anyway that I can get prior version to roll back to?

    Additional Information:

    Windows 10

    5950x

    64-128 RAM.

Further testing is baffling me even more.

If I load 16 identical instruments for a multi-timbral setup, it is increasing the memory usage anywhere between 1.5-2.3x the base RAM footprint. Tried this on Kontakt 5 and a separate install of Kontakt 6 on another computer, and those only increase the RAM footprint by maybe 1-2gigs—which is expected.

@Jeremy_NI Have you heard of any memory leak issue with Kontakt version 6.7.1? 🤔

@Kaiwan_NI Not yet, but for this kind of issues/setups, a Kontakt specialist is definitely needed as well as some system information. I'll create a ticket and hand it over.

My kontakt sessions are crashing like hell ince 6.7.1

I tried K7 player and it's same. I know see some old sessions that just crash as memory goes 99% So I ended up looking at memory leak. Any news bout this ? I'm trying to reinstall 6.6 but realised I did some batch resave and can't load old patches any more.

It's worth reinstalling everything anyway as on some forums 6.6 dosen't have those problems and I can't use kontakt for work anyway.

@ngodzillaa2 The OP never got back to us. The last thing my colleagues asked to him was to update the graphic card driver. If you haven't already, apply these steps: KONTAKT Crashes

If that doesn't fix it, then contact my colleagues here: http://bit.ly/NIsupport_kontakt

I experienced the same thing with MacOS Monterey 12.7.2 , Mainstage 3, Kontakt Player 7 running Vintage Organs. The patch started super small, but grew to over 2gb! I wasn’t even playing the patch. Sucked up all my RAM and glitched the whole program.
