Transferring Tags and Playlists

Hello - I am trying to import playlists and tags from an external hard drive I use on my desktop to a new MacBook. The tracks have transferred over and when I click import collection and select collection it is performing the task but at the end of it I still don't have any tags or cue points or any of my playlists. Please can someone help me with the steps of transferring this between my 2 machines? Thanks
