Machine, Loading instruments and Step Mode

Hi, I am trying to step record Abbey Road Drums.Since they are instruments I understand that I cannot load them to all 16 pads but to one only. Pad mode/Keyboard mode will allow me to play all sounds of that respective kit. However, pressing "Select" to choose the right sound of that kit in Step mode does not work. Only the first sound (kick) can be picked all other pads are blank. Is there a way to fix that?

You can if you really want, it's just not a very efficient use of computer resources to have the same plug loaded 16 times for one Patch, its also not practical when you want to change any fx/parameter of the Plug to have to repeat it 15 extra times…

Sure. Load Abbey Road Drums in Pad-1, which will control the KICK, then make sure the other 15 Pads send MIDI Out to Pad-1, for each Pad twist the Transpose button until it sends the note to trigger whatever Drum piece you want, do that for all Pads and save the Group (as a preset) so you dont have to do it again.

The above has the obvious disadvantage of having all the Audio coming of Pad-1, not so good if you like mixing within Maschine or even when exporting track outs. It's possible to also configure Konakt to send multi-outs and those 15 empty Pads to receive audio from it but thats a more complicated topic.

@d-one: Thanks for this workaround! BtW, for some reason, abbey road now shows in my library as a group (again). I already thought it was like that a couple of years ago, and now after re-installing the libraries it didn't show up as a group. Since a few days it is now available as a group again. Maybe the last machine update fixed that (or a gremlin in my old Mac who knows). Again, thanks you very much for your support!

Those Abbey Road Group/Kits are a much, much simpler and smaller version of the full version Kontakt Instrument, there's a lot fewer velocity layers for example which will rekt the realism. It's basically a sampled version of the original, 15MB or so of samples vs GB's…
