Hi, I have a komplete audio 1 that has been working fine on Windows 7. It has suddenly started crackling and now won’t play back any audio.

In device manager, there is an unrecognised device: Komplete Audio 1 DFU

Hopefully this is just a driver issue but I can’t find any legacy drivers on the NI site, only windows 10 drivers are available. I need a compatible driver with windows 7. Anyone know where I can find the official legacy drivers for this?

Many thanks

Hey @Kiwi Do you mean Kontrol Audio 1 or Komplete Audio 1?

    If it's Kontrol Audio 1

you will find the legacy driver here: AUDIO KONTROL 1 Driver 3.1.0 - Windows 7, 8, 8.1

    From this location: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/

    If it's Komplete Audio 1,

then there are no legacy drivers, it only supports Windows 10 and 11 and they are plug and play.

    Hi Jeremy,

I managed to find the original installer in my recycle bin, so it was an NI Installer not Microsoft plug and play as I suspected. For the record the file is called NativeInstruments_UsbAudio_v4.86.0_2020-07-06_setup.exe

Unfortunately my interface is still crackling, so it looks like a hardware issue. Thanks for your help anyway.

    Hi Jeremy,

It is the Komplete Audio 1, the all black unit above. It has always worked on my windows 7 PC. I bought it in May 2020. Possibly there were older models that used Windows 7 drivers?

There is a directory under program files/Native Instruments/ called Komplete Audio Driver. In this directory is a folder called W7W8_x64. Inside is about 14 files, dlls etc related to the driver with names similar to NativeInstrumentsUsbAudio…

There is a driver setup application which doesn’t work, when I click on it , it says File vendor.cer not found

in the properties of this setup file it says it is file version 4.68.0.0 which I presume is the driver installer that made it.

So this is what I need I think, a full installer for W7W8 64 bit driver version 4.68.0.0

@Kiwi Unfortunately Windows 7 was never supported for these soundcards, not sure how it worked in the first place. The drivers were/are deployed by Microsoft, they are plug and play. The driver we provide here is only the ASIO driver.

Hi Jeremy. In the directory I mentioned there is an application file called ucore. Clicking on it brings up a Native Instruments Wizard: Welcome to Native Instruments Komplete Audio Driver v4.86.0 Uninstall Wizard. It has the Native Instruments branding and logo and looks like their software rather than Microsoft’s plug and play. I think that this must have been downloaded from NI when I set the interface up, the date was September 2020 when I installed it.

is there a way I can find out if Native Instruments have a copy of this driver installer? If it’s Microsoft that installed it as you claim, it must have originated from NI I would think?

    thanks
