Traktor S3 using Ipad mini and Portable battery

Hello all,

I want to know if the S3 can be powered just by using a portable battery pack into the USB-B port (or any other way) whilst using it with an Ipad mini 2. I have tried this and the unit does all the correct light up on start but then becomes lifeless. I want to know if it can be used for a purely mobile solution like the Omnis - Duo in conjunction with an Ipad, when in locations with no wall socket. I am aware with a laptop it can power itself but ipad is the key issue for me. I'm surprised it initially springs to life with a portable battery, which is why it makes me wonder why it doesn't stay on.. maybe a bigger battery?? Or is this a complete no go. Cheers B

Powerbank with USB C PD + USB C cable with 12v barrel connector should help.

Here is Thread where they discuss it about the Maschine+ https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/7883/maschine-power-bank-guide/p1

BUT BE CAREFULL, THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT 15V, you need 12v for s3.

Also, what software are you going to use? Algoriddim Djay?

Hi thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Yes I think algoriddim Djay but could USE Traktor app if needs be. I see that they are using a powerbank straight into the power port with a special cable. This may work but I need to find the correct combination as you say! Don't want to get this wrong

Traktor app has been dead since 4 years and I don't think it ever supported s3.

You can use a multimeter to check if the voltage and polarity is correct.

    Thanks for the information!

Do you have any thoughts why it seems to power on through the USB-B port with a powerbank and then after initial start up nothing?

    No, not really.

So you have two cables connected? The ios one and the usb b? Software is running but can't see it?

Maybe it's not designed for 2x USB at the same time, takes the B as primary and can't see any device?

That may be the case then. I have ipad mini 2 going into ios port and have tried power bank connected to USB-B port hoping to run everything. It seems the correct power route is through the normal DC connection. I was surprised to see it light up at first

I just looked it up, the s3 is supported by Traktor 2 DJ.

Do you have any software running? I think if no software connect to the device it will stay off.

I had Traktor 2 DJ running on the Ipad.

I'm confused on the AC/DC power volatage, it says 15v on back of unit but plug says 12v?

    Which is it?

Huh, the picture I saw says 12v on the back.

Could be that it accepts a range of voltage.

    No, you are correct! it's 12v - 2A

Finally, do you know where to find any good mapping for it and DJay pro AI?

Should be pre-mapped, as it's listed as a supported device. https://www.algoriddim.com/hardware#ios

The basics work but the FX are not allocated. I can map these myself.

    Thanks for your support Lord-carlos
