komplete s series mk3 can't get back from DAW mode?

Just checked for updates and updated ethereal earth, no info on what the update was supposed to do .

I loaded it up in Kompleat Kontrol and in kontakt and in both the keyboard in edit view does not work

just as with many other instruments

I can kind of duplicate this I think. If I use KK standalone, load a preset from Omni it plays ok. If I switch to Edit view so the main Kontakt view opens the kbd is white and clicking on it doesn't play anything, although the instrument still plays from the MK3 keyboard. The Kontakt display looks like this

You should be able to click on the left of the cog/symbol and get an orange bar like this.

That means the instrument is selected and the keyboard should show the colour zones. There seems to be some situations you can get into where you can't select the instrument though, which is where I think there's a problem. Really this part of the UI kinda sucks, you shouldn't have to click on such a small area to select the instrument, clicking anywhere in the UI should do it. I brought this up in the beta but apparently it isn't a trivial change.

Thank you for your reply it is most helpful when trying to untangle what works and what doesn't and I now know KK is Brocken and I should use Kontakt instead, unless I want to load a non kontakt instrument such as Spitfire BBC orchestra either way your workflow has to take into account NI failure to fix Brocken software I.E. the reality of there glossy ads isn't being met , so come on NI are you going to fix this or slowly push users to Kontakt. For me personally I have put most of my effort in to KK so I can see all my instruments in 2 places i.e. NKS/NKS2 and user presents, but the elephant in the room is KK is Brocken and not fixed even after a major update with no info from NI as to when and if it will fix it. OK it might be difficult and not a minor fix as you suggest but there reputation is taking a hit unless they do. I as a Customer I care about things that don't work out of the box fully, And yes we will get the odd bug, but it needs fixed in a reasonable time .

Once again apologies for the ramble and it is not aimed at any body in NI except the decision makers , I fully appreciate the techs/programmers do what they can given the resources time/ budget given to them by managers and Marketing Decision makers hope you hear this NI

Thanks for the thread - this happens for me too. S88 MK3 and all NI products up to date. Cubase 13 on W11, also on latest version. Have made no modifications other than adding the MK3 to the Studio Setup MIDI remote device list

If I open Cubase and then click 'DAW', it goes to the mix screen on the MK3, but the 'PLUG-IN' and 'BROWSER' buttons do not llight up or respond, even once I select (and arm/monitor) a track that has a KK plugin with loaded instrument.

But if I select (and arm/monitor) a track that has a KK plugin with loaded instrument before I press the DAW button, them the other buttons seem to light up and respond. Even after pressing the DAW button. After that, it behaves as I expect, but if the first thing I press is the DAW button (or press it before triggering an action that activates the other two buttons) then those two buttons are effectively dead until I restart everything

Thanks @Jeremy_NI - that seems to have worked. Now I know it's called Autofocus too!

I've been finding the behaviour very erratic with this where, at the beginning of a project or re-opening a new one, it works but at some point it stops working, or arbitrarily changes behaviour (i.e., sometimes it works fine, sometimes it needs me to click on the 'S88'midi icon, sometimes nothing I tried (apart from what you posted) seemed to get it working.

Is this because of something I'm doing without realising or understanding it, or is this considered a bug/issue?

@SomeGuy Well, it's a setting that needs to be made in Cubase, that's why we created this article.

Gotcha - so is this something that now that I've set it I shouldn't see the issue again? Or do I need to do this per project, or per instance of Komplete Kontrol within a project?

It is a bit annoying that to switch between DAW (MIXER) and MIDI mode I now have to press SHIFT/MIDI as the old MIDI button is gone - it would be much better to either have MIDI as the default setting and SETTINGS using SHIFT or (better still) make the DAW button a toggle between DAW (MIXER) and MIDI mode so I can more easily control devices as well as mixer channels. Having to press shift and Settings/MIDI takes my attention away from what I am playing.
