Crack noise on some track in Traktor Pro 3

Hello,

On some of my tracks (not all, just a few) in Traktor Pro 3, It pops up a horrible cracking sound. It is not there when I play it from a different media player. I have a MacBook Pro i5 8GB and an S4. I use an external sound card - Universal Audio Apollo Twin.

I have read others have a similar issue, but I cant find any solution for this..

I think this one is solved as far as it goes (for me). My files are originally AIFF files. I compress them to FLAC files and play them in Traktor. It appears that the AIFFs work fine - the ones that Im having trouble with are FLACs. A quick fix is to just exchange the FLACs with AIFFs. However, I would like to know what goes wrong, if anyone have an answer :)

Do these noises also occur, when you are using the sound interface of the S4 or the internal audio interface of your computer?

Did you try increasing buffer size and/or sample rate?

Yes they do. I can cleary see the crack in the sound wave and its the same place every time. I have tried what you suggested, without any luck.

can you run mp3diags (or something equivalent if you're on mac) on the files? https://mp3diags.sourceforge.net/

Ill be happy to try, but I dont know what will come out of it as the files are only cracking in Traktor, not in other media players. This indicates that there is nothing wrong with the file. My files are by the way 24bit/96Khz resolution.

probably easiest to convert them to 16bit/48khz then, see if that changes things

But I don`t want 16/44 files.. 24/96 should work perfectly fine.

You wrote that you convert your files from AIFF to FLAC. It seems this is the problem. Try to change some parameters in your program.

Btw. Which software do you use to convert?

This sounds really strange . My collection (15.000 Tracks) contains 90% FLAC files (16/44;24/48;24/96) and I don't have crackles while playing in Traktor.

You can also open a ticket and send a AIFF + the converted FLAC file to NI and they can test it.

Thanks - glad this isn´t a common problem. Probably something on my end. I use Switch to convert the files.

FLAC decoding is somewhat CPU intensive, maybe try setting your FLAC encoder quality setting down to 0 as a test to see what happens

I don‘t think it has something to do with decoding. He wrote that he can see the crackle in the waveform. I think he is normalizing/compressing or whatever the tracks in Switch. He should try to turn off all additional DSP FX.

Btw: Standard rate of AIFF is 16/44 up to 24/48, why convert to 24\96?

Switch compress the files to FLAC. Since I record vinyl, the files are 24/96.

I too see this on a selection of my FLAC files. I have yet to figure out what cause it, but think it is related to Traktor Pro 3 as the files play OK in other players, including Traktor Pro 2. It is not a random thing happening during playback. I have tried multiple computers and the distortion always happens at the same place in the waveform. They are all Intel computers though, but they are showing before I play the song. I would not describe the sound as crackling but more like full on 100% distortion / white noise. I see this with FLAC files from 16/44 to 24/96. As you see on the waveform attached. There are multiple entries and it only lasts for a few milliseconds at a time, but can happen multiple times during a song. I have also tried not analyzing the song, but the distortion is still there.

I have tested one of the FLAC files in:

    Traktor 2.11.3 = OK

    Traktor 3.10.1 = Distortion

    Traktor 3.11.0 = Distortion

Other media players (Windows, VLC, Android players (GMMP) = OK

⚜️TRAKTOR HAVE AN ISSUE WITH PRO3 FOR READING FLAC FILES THAT ARE 24BIT "MAX COMPRESSION"

IT DOES GLITCH EVERYWHERE IN THE SONG.

TRY RE-ENCODE YOUR FLAC IN LOWER COMPRESSION, IT WILL WORK GOOD. I DID THIS FOR MY FLAC 24BIT. IT SHOULD BE A FIX MADE BY TRAKTOR TO THE SOFTWARE BUT I THINK THEY DON'T CARE.😎
