Editing sample maps with a text editor

Is there a way to convert the binary sample map files (.map) to and from text? These maps would contain references only, not the actual samples.

I'm asking because I'd like to build and import sample maps with up to 200 rows, and the editor in Reaktor feels clumsy to me.

Right I've just returned to music after 6 years to find that the original java-based process to generate .map files (which are data files as you've detected) is offline, and the only one I can use on macOS is Robert Provine's (search github for it - I'm 'too new to post links apparent) which is 6 years old (funnily enough), needs to be built with a compiler (and some c++ programming knowledge) and requires more set up that needed for Reaktor 6 which allows at least dragging in the samples.

I'm about to embark on the generation of a lot of weird original sounds, and need to randomise and load sets of 128 samples quickly. I don't want to have to drag and drop them individually - too painful.

Really, NI need to enable to pulling in of a directory of 128 files and map them across the map automatically. Sorry that doesn't solve your problem, but AFAIK the answer is no.
