I saw the same question but found no answer. It lights up for a second and shuts down. I tried two USB cables and two computers. The device is shown as "working."

The lights you see when you plug it in are part of the devices boot sequence, then they switch off until the software is started, no need to worry..
Yes what @Symian said here is valid. What happens when you open the Maschine software? Does the Mikro Mk3 get recognised? If not, maybe this will help: My MASCHINE Controller Does Not Start
