Kontakt 7.4.1 Crashing in Ableton

Hello! I have just purchased a new computer and installed everything and wanted to work on tracks today on ableton. Kontakt 7, for some reason, will randomly crash Ableton on playback. Specifically the Noah 40 piano since I just load that up since it was the first Piano that comes up. I have tried all the solutions, nothing. I have reached out with crash logs to Ableton and Native Instruments and nothing yet. Any suggestions? Has anyone have this problem? Thank you.

Latest update: So I saw somewhere that there is an possible Issue with Samsung External SSDs with Kontakt libraries running through them. I had my libraries on a Samsung T5 SSD. I just moved my libraries to my C drive. I tried doing what I did before to get the crash to happen and so far, no crash! I still want to wait for NI support to read my log and see what they say but I'm thinking this was the problem.

what are "all" (or at least some) of the solutions you have tried already?

PC. I did all the solutions on the Native instruments page about Kontakt 7 crashing. Also, I changed my cores to all of my cores that Kontakt can use and also dropped my buffer on my interface to the highest it can go, still crashes.

So ! (I gather that you are a Windows user though not stating specifically ?)

Since there is not any deeper details and I don't know Ableton that well , I will just ask ! :

Does this happen if using only one instance of Kontakt using "Noah 40 piano" and no other instances (one track and no other tracks) or do you mix with other plug-ins ? Reason for asking is that despite what some believe then you can not always expect all programs to be able to handle especially mix of VST and VST3 ! (As far as I can tell then Kontakt 7 only comes as VST3)..

(Prior to any tinkering always make sure that you have at least a System restore point made , preferably a full backup of your system drive !)

Else the N.I. page mention updating Windows , that includes updating the motherboard chips-set drivers , please make sure that there are not an update available for that at Intel ? or whoever made the chips set for you motherboard. Also , check sound card drivers and though a 'quaint' suggestion also check updates for your graphics card.

Else , and may be an even worse suggestion to some : please provide info on system CPU , GPU and amount of memory on computer and sound driver used (Asio ?) When doing advanced trouble shooting and you can not find any other reason for your problem you might want to try another driver to see if that makes any difference ! Others here might know more about e.g. ASIO drivers than I !

Update: I updated my windows, did the suggestions again and still is crashing randomly. Updated ASIO drivers, still crashing. I have no clue what to do. I'll just have to wait for NI to look at my stuff. Standalone and VST3 version

@JesterMgee Sorry, more specifically I followed these steps still didn't work: 1. Delete the KONTAKT User Registry Folder

Click the Windows Start button and enter "regedit" into the search field. Then select Registry Editor from the results.

In the Registry Editor, open the following directory:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Native Instruments

Depending on the KONTAKT version you are using, delete the corresponding folder:

KONTAKT 5: "Kontakt 5"

KONTAKT 6: "Kontakt Application"

KONTAKT 7: "Kontakt 7"

Close the Registry Editor.

Start KONTAKT in standalone mode (not in your DAW) and select your audio interface's ASIO driver in the Audio and MIDI Settings dialog. If you are using your PC's internal soundcard, use the generic ASIO4ALL driver. Watch this video to learn how to set up ASIO4ALL for onboard soundcards.

If KONTAKT still crashes, proceed with the next chapter.

2. Reinitialize the KONTAKT Database

Click the Windows start button at the bottom left of your screen.

Type "%localappdata%" and click the option that appears.

Navigate to the Native Instruments folder.

Then, depending on the KONTAKT version you are using, delete the following folder:

KONTAKT 5: "Kontakt 5"

KONTAKT 6: "Kontakt"

KONTAKT 7: "Kontakt 7"

Start KONTAKT in standalone mode (not in your DAW). If KONTAKT still crashes, proceed with the next chapter.

3. Reset KONTAKT's Output Section

Please close all audio applications before following these steps.

Click the Windows start button at the bottom left of your screen.

Type "%localappdata%" and click on the option which appears.

Navigate to the Native Instruments.

Depending on the KONTAKT version you are using, delete the following folder:

KONTAKT 5: "Kontakt 5"

KONTAKT 6: "Kontakt"

KONTAKT 7: "Kontakt 7"

Rename the "default" folder to "default_OLD":

RenameDefaultFolder.png

Start the KONTAKT application in Standalone Mode (not as a plug-in in your DAW). This will reestablish the default output settings.

If KONTAKT is now running correctly in standalone mode, close the application and try opening the plug-in version of KONTAKT from your DAW.

4. Update Windows

Click the Windows Start button, type in 'windows updates' and hit the enter key.

Click the Check for updates button.

Install all available updates.

After all updates are installed, restart your computer.

Try opening KONTAKT again to see if the issue has been resolved.

I'm wondering if maybe I need to install an older version? Whatever to make this end I have a huge project to finish and I can't because Kontakt keeps crashing

@Dannevoltz Im using T5 and T7.They've been solid so far but Im on Mac. Im not sure if ExFat (if its formatted as that) is advisable on PC but it sure isn't on Mac.

How much free space on your T5?

@Jojo123 Before I took them off the T5, I had about 300 gbs of free space on the drive. I think from what I saw about the issue with T5 was a PC issue as the guy had a Asus laptop.

This is happening for me using a Sandisk SSD , when I load 40s drums as Kontakt instrument in ABleton Live Suite 11
