Playing Spotlight Collection as Melodic instruments

I have several in this series and often struggle to play the notes in an instruments range, typically triggering samples instead.

One example is the Ehru in East Asia

Is there a way to determine which instruments are melodic and which can not be played this way

Ok I figured it out, the term I should use is to play them chromatically, many of the spotlight collection have a scale tab, from there you can select chromatic.
