Hello

What would be the best choice for music production with komplete 14 collectors edition

Macbook Pro, M2 Max , 1TB SSD, 32GB Ram or

Mac Studio, M2 Max, 1TB SSD, 64GB Ram

which one would you pick ?

ofcourse It would be nice with a laptop, but you do get more for the price if buying a Mac studio.

So if I pick a macbook pro than It will be 32 GB ram since its get really expensive uppgrading to 64 GB RAM

It depends on your needs and usecase....

If you are about to make large project with cinematics Kontakt libraries 32 GB RAM might be sooner or later too tight. For example one patch of Stradivari Violin (multimic) takes about 5 GB RAM on Win. So, you could load about 5 such strings to your project if having 32 GB RAM. RAM is shared with graphic card, so much less than 32 GB is at hand.

Of course there are smaller libraries. And there are even bigger, or will be in near future...

I am on Win, so it is a bit different, but.... I have 64 GB desktop (it is small format easy to carry if needed) and 16 GB tabletlike notebook for light sketching and like.

One more note. K14U CE will not fit to 1TB SSD.... You need more, or external SSD. To load large projects with big Kontakt libraries one needs fast storage disc access, having it on internall SSD might be better...

Probably, Mac users would give you more relevant advice concerning internal - external disc usage than me...

@Kubrak Thanks a lot for the answer :) I have an external SSD, Samsung T7 Shield 4 TB so that should work I guess ?

I will download k14CE to the samsung external SSD

I do not know, I have no experience with Mac.

But generally. If it is internally NVMe disc and not SATA disc, it might be comparable to internal disc concerning the speed. SATA disc would be several times slower. Most of external discs are SATA....

Also, you may place big/most used libraries to internal disc and the rest to external. Things may be installed on multiple discs, not just one.

In my opinion a 1 TB SSD is too small today. Yes you can alway connect an external SSD but it reduces portability, you would sometimes need external power (and you battery will drain faster) and might run out off ports. I have a MBP M1Max with 64 GB Ram and 4 TB SSD. I sometimes have an issue with RAM with 30 or more tracks with VSL Synchron libraries (but not with as many Kontakt tracks with NI instrument). The Cremona quartet is using most if I remember correctly. On the other hand my 4 TB SSD is rather full and with 1 TB it will be full from the start,

Unfortunately, the price of Apple storage is quite steep. You will have to rely on external drive.

yes it is, and when I have read about it, people often say it works perfectly to háve 1 TB and than having external of 4 TB since you can download komplete to it

As I wrote, if exernal SSD is internaly NVMe and not SATA, it should be OK. But wait for confirmation from Mac users.

From my personal experience when I switched from internal SATA to internal NVMe, the load times dropped to third of time SATA needed, or so....

No issues with speed just portability. Train and Plane seldom have tables with enough space for a MBP and SSD and your phone I travel a lot. I have an X5 which works perfectly, very fast but it sometimes deconnects when your equipment shifts a bit. Some people stick it to the back of their screen.
