Hello,

I have a Komplete Kontrol S49 Mk2 keyboard which is outputting midi notes one semitone sharp so that if I play C, it outputs Db (midi 61). I can change this using the shift - octave down button but then when the keyboard is turned off and then reconnected, it's still back on one note sharp.

I understand that the octave shift can be reset by holding down both octave buttons at the same time but this doesn't appear to work for octave-shift semitones. I'm 99% sure that this is a Komplete Kontrol thing since another keyboard outputs the correct notes. That said, I have looked at all my midi settings and found nothing.

Any clues?

So it's not happening in Komplete Kontrol in standalone but in any other app? That's really strange. Can you check if any of the scale functions of the keyboard are activated? Can you check the MIDI settings in the Komplete Kontrol standalone app?

This knob is for transposing, make sure it is set to zero. You can also reset these settings to default by creating a new template.

The OS is Mac Ventura 13.4.1 M2 MacBook Pro 16".

Do you mean Komplete Kontrol the app running in standalone? I have not tried that. However I used a couple of Midi sniffers where I could see the signal was sharp by one semi and a Sequential keyboard was correct.

With Komplete Kontrol running in standalone, the S49 keyboard outputs the expected notes.

In Logic, using a new file, it outputs sharp by a semitone. Using an Arturia software synth it's sharp.

Using Midi Monitor, C key outputs C#.

@Dermot McD If it only happens in Logic there is probably a setting for the keyboard (Logic has a lot of MIDI possibilities and controller assignments). If you have a lot of custom preferences in Logic, I'd suggest to look for these MIDI assignments. The quickest way might be to reset Logic to default preferences. The problem then is you loose all custom preferences.

To rest Logic's preferences, you need to delete this file:

Mac HD -> Users -> User Name -> Library -> Prefereces -> com.apple.logic10.plist

Note: the User Library folder is hidden. To access it, click on Go in the menu bar and press down the Alt key. You'll now find the Library entry in the menu:

If you want to make sure, you can also move this file temporarily by putting it to a different location on your computer, like on your desktop, then open Logic and see if you still have this semitone issue.

Hello Jeremy,

The problem occurs in several programs while Logic is not running. The exact same one semitone sharp is shown in all programs like Midi monitor which is about as basic as it gets, GarageBand and when using Arturia instruments in stand-alone mode.

I can try trashing or moving logic's prefs but what about these other programs?

Yes, the transposing knob was not set to zero. That said, if you just look at the knob, it says transpose and you can’t see the setting isn't zero until you move the knob. Not 100% intuitive.

The other thing which I failed to grasp is that this setting or template is somehow saved back to the keyboard so that even when no instance of the software Komplete Kontrol is being used, the keyboard retains the setting. Is this correct and is there anywhere I can read about this? I spent a while looking and reading and didn’t see any of this.
