Kontakt Player 8 standalone - no sound
Using the version within my DAW is fine. But when I fire this up and load a VI…no sound. And no, this isn't one that requires the full version. Even Piano Uno won't play. (And no I don't have my speakers muted :) ). I'm happy to concede "operator error" but I don't see where/how. Appreciate any insights or ideas.

Check the MIDI preferences in Kontakt and make sure that your keyboard is enabled for input. That's the common cause of silence in Kontakt/Komplete Kontrol standalone.

To help people understand then perhaps supply screenshots of the Kontakt standalone settings of Midi and Audio. Also then what is your exact version of Kontakt and exact version of OS ?

MIDI:Nothing under inputs, outputs is MS GS Wavetable Synth with status "off."

In the MIDI settings inside Kontakt you should see the keyboard MIDI ports. What MIDI keyboard are you using?
Also, the "Sample rate: 0" isn't good, normally you'd be seeing 44100 or 48000 there. Are you using the same ASIO driver in your DAW and are the settings the same?

Try using Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver: information & download for all music programs and DAW
then also do the following :
Open a Windows Administrator Terminal/Command prompt
in command prompt type mmsys.cpl
hit enter
Select tab Playback , Select your active audio device (e.g., your speakers or headphones), right click and click Properties.
Select tab Advanced . Uncheck both options under Exclusive Mode (Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device Give exclusive mode applications priority)
Click Apply and OK.
Also remember to check that the Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver Setup (x64) is setup to use your audio device (Found in Windows Start menu after Steinberg driver installation).
Please notice though that the Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver from what other people say is one of them 'not a real ASIO driver' and that it may give more latency than some other 'ASIO' drivers.
