Guitar Rig - No Sound

I downloaded Guitar Rig and set it up as per instructions but get no volume with the guitar turned up. My computer is Windows 10, not a Mac. Do I need to download a DAW in order to convert the guitar signal? I'm not interested in recording, just playing. Any tips would be appreciated.

VOICEMEETER has a number of different options but none seem to work.

Using Voicemeter is about finding the right combination of drivers and settings.

Also then on Windows then often with respect to sound problems then the problem is that people do not understand that if you are using ASIO that grabs exclusive control then other things may not work.

My own personal suggestion mostly is using the Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver: information & download

and then disable exclusive access .

With this combination then I myself do not have to use the Banana Mixer.

It should be noted though that the Steinberg driver has some latency.

How to disable Exclusive Mode in Windows Sound Settings :

Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray and select Sounds.

Go to the Playback tab, select your active audio device (e.g., your speakers or headphones), and click Properties.

Go to the Advanced tab.

Uncheck both options under Exclusive Mode:

Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device

Give exclusive mode applications priority

Click Apply and OK.

You don't need a DAW, GR will work standalone. What audio interface are you using? Do you have an external interface or are you using your PC's sound card?

I connect my guitar to my PC with a 4 ft cord with a USB connection.

If it's a jack to USB cable it won't work well with GR. GR can use one audio interface at a time, so if you have a J-USB cable as the input there won't be an output. You could use something like ASIO4ALL to combine the input from the J-USB cable with the audio output from your PC, but the ideal solution would be a proper interface. Something like a Komplete Audio 1 is cheap and cheerful and comes with a bunch of software.

The ASIO4ALL sounds like a plan. Just download a driver correct?

Yep. Download and instal ASIO4ALL then configure it with the input from the Jack-USB and output to your PC speakers. The latency will probably be higher than a dedicated interface, but it should be usable.

Have ASIO. Still no volume. Output says USB Audio1 Input says USB Audio 1.

Do you need an audio interface between the guitar and the computer or can you go straight from the guitar to the computer USB?
