Kernel Panic on macOS 15 Sequoia with M4 Chip Opening Kontakt 8 and Reaktor (Komplete 15)

Wandered past this earlier today:
Not exactly M4 specific but some interesting reading related to other K8 crashes.
If you are using HDMi or possibly 120hz refresh rates on your Mac - could be a connection here.

A long shot to try…for those who are having this issue, are your macOS Settings → General → Language & Region" in other languages other than US English or UK English? If they are not, try setting it to US English or UK English as the topmost preferred language, reboot your Mac, and try again. It could be a rare language setting issue perhaps? (The OP screenshot of Logic Pro crash report looks to be in Italian.)

What's your chip?

I've contacted you by email regarding this issue. We filed a report to Apple and we'll add your case and files to it. One question, do you use an external monitor, is it a 5k? Do the crashes stop if you change the refresh rate to 60Hz?

Anyway I've just updated my system to 15.4 so will keep checking this too

@Bruce Bones You didn't get back to the email I sent you. Did you receive it?

Was using Reaktor a lot but so far no issues, I wonder if one common factor here is Reaper?

Unfortunately not. I'm getting these crashes with Live 12.
Edit: Reading through the vi-control thread Vocalpoint posted above, I have to wonder – what the hell is NI doing? It surely takes some effort to crash a modern OS in the year 2025, and it's kinda embarrassing if high resolution monitors really are the root cause of this. NI, please get your act together.

Yeah but I've not had these crashes in Live either (which I use more than Reaper). But I only have a M1 Max - it seems more related to the later Max models

As I’ve written before (not sure if here or elsewhere), I haven’t had any problems on my M1 MBP. It started when I switched to an M4 Pro MBP (not a Max model, but with a few improvements, like TB5, compared to the base model) last fall. Time flies.
In any case, NI and Apple should have all the information they need. But I haven’t heard back in almost 2 months, while other user reports are piling up. That’s not a good look at all.

The way I read that VI post is this could very well be a firmware issue onboard these Mac devices.
"This seems to be an ongoing with the DCPs on M2 systems: in fact, it looks like it's the firmware on the display control processor that's panicking"
If that ends up being the issue - there is no way NI (or any vendor) would know that or code around it.
I know it's hard for a Mac fan to believe - but Apple is fallible too. Just like everyone else.

I agree, that’s why I wrote „NI and Apple“ (not in the posting you were replying though, so, fair enough).
Although it’s fair to assume, I think, that NI is using some bespoke, oldass libraries, at least in Reaktor, possibly triggering some obscure OS or controller bug. But that’s all speculation, of course.

Well - you are not wrong - Reaktor - as it exists right now - is from another time. It is also in long term maintenance mode and was released in its current form years before these new Macs were even a thought. And of course it is using old libraries - that is not in dispute.
But it goes without saying - old, new or otherwise - there is no a single product from NI that is designed for (or intended for use in/on) any system with a display resolution greater than Standard HD.
If a user is trying to jam this stuff into a 2025 5K "Apple-ized" 120hz scenario - just because they spent 3K on a fancy monitor along with a flawed assumption that everything should "just work" - they should also know that any of this older stuff would never be tested on that gear and should be ready for challenges.

According to NI the products in question are fully and officially supported on the platform I’m using. It’s only natural that I expect it to work. Maybe not on day one, but that ship has sailed a long time ago.
Look, I’m not here to argue with you or anyone else. I just wanted to update the thread to clarify what’s happening, and to publicly remind NI that I’m still waiting. I’m doing my best to stay patient, but it’s been almost half a year, and I haven’t been able to use plugins and a whole ecosystem I’ve invested a lot of time and money into.Adding to my growing and hopefully understandable frustration is the fact that the great Antonio Blanca released a new Reaktor ensemble just a few days ago. I’d love to buy it, if only to send a signal that there’s still a market for commercial Reaktor tools. But for obvious reasons I’m not gonna spend any money on NI related stuff at this moment in time, which means I’ll most likely miss the intro price, AB will lose a sale, and NI will lose their cut. It’s just bad for everyone involved.

I am not here to argue either.
Simply to point out that unless a product's system requirements clearly state full (Q&A certified) support for a 2025 M4 Mac with a 5K display attached running @ 120HZ AND running on Sequoia - you are taking chances expecting anything to work.
This too might be a slight stretch:
"According to NI the products in question are fully and officially supported on the platform I’m using"
Reaktor was last updated back in April 2023 and was confirmed good only on Ventura at that time. But as of this moment - Reaktor still does not even appear on the official NI Sequoia compatibility listing:
macOS 15 Sequoia Compatibility Statement – Native Instruments
That it works at all on Sonoma and/or Sequoia should be taken as a bonus.
That April 2023 update was the last word (so far) on Reaktor. If/when anything else might happen there is anyone's guess.
