Kontakt Upgrade Question

I have a question; if I install Kontakt plugin for my DAW (Ableton Live), then add a few libraries then create a project and save it in Ableton Live.

If I later upgrade from Kontakt 7 to 8 then open the Ableton session, will the new Kontakt 8 open the same libraries loaded, or will Ableton give me an error that Kontakt 7 could not be located?

In other words, does Kontakt hold/save information about which plugin is loaded (including which preset) even if I update to a newer Kontakt version?

Many thanks!

    No - Ableton does not have Auto Migration like a few other DAWs do.

    If you create a number of projects in K7 - and then update to K8 in the future - you will need to manually add K8 to the project, recreate the K7 instance in K8 (adding the same library as the K7 instance), test and then finally remove the K7 instance.

    Critical power tip - do not remove K7 until you are sure you have transferred every instance you have from K7 to K8.

    What you are asking about is a DAW dependent feature and it relies on the DAW maker to implement the feature : Notes about Auto-Migration of Kontakt Versions in DAW Projects .

    Quote :

    IMPORTANT: Auto-migration only works with the latest versions of Cubase 12 (and higher), Nuendo 12 (and higher), Logic Pro 10.8 (and higher), Pro Tools 12.3 (and higher) and Maschine 2.16.0 (and higher). Do not try to perform the auto-migration on other DAWs! And do not perform auto-migration if you are still working on your project!

    @PoorFellow

    This needs to be updated to include Studio One v7 now:

    "Auto-migration only works with the latest versions of Cubase 12 (and higher), Nuendo 12 (and higher), Logic Pro 10.8 (and higher), Pro Tools 12.3 (and higher) and Maschine 2.16.0 (and higher)"

    Thank you for pointing that out. I have actually noticed the you pointed it out to someone else a while back. But since I have no way of editing it then all I can do is to report it through same channels as you.

    But I will tell Jeremy_NI directly that it needs updating.

    @PoorFellow

    Please note:

    I am aware of successful K7→K8 migrations when using Studio One v7.1.x ONLY

    However - I have no telemetry whatsoever on whether one can load a Studio One Project with anything older than K7 and have that auto-migrate over cleanly to an instance of K8.

    I am trying to find out if any other scenarios are applicable.
