kontakt8 won't work with my Nektar Impact Lx61+ Midi controller

Member Posts: 6 Newcomer

Hi,

I checked all documentation but in Kontakt8 options tab, i can see my Midi controller(under midi) but I cannot assign the port and hence Kontakt8 libraries(chris hein strings) don't work with midi controller.

I can use the VSTs library using computer keyboard. Nektar works fine with all other VSTs(keyscsape etc.)

Just to be sure , did you click at the OFF to configure ? , reference : Configuring your MIDI Keyboard / Controller in Kontakt

Yes I did. It doesn't assign ports. I guess that's why it won't work.

Are you trying to use the keyboard on two programs at the same time ?

Windows most likely won't allow two independent programs to share a MIDI port. To test this, try closing your DAW before you assign the MIDI in your Kontakt standalone.

Yes I figured that out just now. While cubase is open I cannot assign ports on kontakt.

I closed cubase and assigned ports. I tested midi with standalone Kontakt which works.

But here's the catch. As soon as I open cubase, and open kontakt from within cubase it again doesn't work. I suppose it's because again the midi ports are all assigned to cubase.

I know the problem now but not sure what to do next.

How does it work with keyscape etc. It's a mystery now.

Please explain what you mean by : "As soon as I open cubase, and open kontakt from within cubase it again doesn't work." ? are there no midi activity in the DAW ? Or are you referring to no sound ?

If it is a sound problem then try using the Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver: information & download for both Kontatkt and DAW (Kontakt must be setup as standalone) and then Disable Exclusive Mode in Windows SoundSettings

Thx. I am using audient asio driver as I have evo8 connected to computer. How do I manage without changing the driver to steinberg asio driver

Sorry , I do not know these products or what settings are needed but you can try using that ASIO driver for Kontakt and DAW and then maybe Disable Exclusive Mode in Windows Sound Settings ?

I am not sure about any of this.

But I think that you first need to establish if the midi works in the DAW (if you can record Midi using keyboard , DAW and Kontakt and if the problem is a Midi settings or a sound settings problem , you still did not answer that question).

Sometimes with sound problems the people can route their way out of the problem using the "VOICEMEETER BANANA Advanced Mixer" (it's free/Donationware)

But please then at least make a Windows restore point before digging too deep into changing Windows audio settings or even better take a backup.

Yes, the midi works in DAW with Kontakt but no sound is heard. I will try the banana mixer.

Great , but you probably need also use same sound driver for both DAW and Kontakt.

    Hi,

The issue is resolved. Thx for all the help. I don't really know how it works but it does. All I did was use loopMidi to create a virtual midi port and assigned that to kontakt.

When creating a track for kontakt VST I still have to use the physical midi port as input port that all other VSTs use i.e. ( the original impact midi controller midi ports).

The sound from Kontakt is back. Feels.like going back to old days as a s/w developer. Debugging and fixing issues, sometimes not sure how it works. 😀

Hope this is a permanent solution usable by others who are similarly troubled. I am still not sure how it works. Hopefully one day I will know.

Welcome!
