Is there a known issue with Kontakt 8. Since I loaded it last week , my cubase13 project saving times takes nearly 3 minutes. Is this a known problem? Always taken a few seconds to save projects previously.
I am inclined to remove it from my work.
Hey everyone. Kontakt 8.2.0 was released yesterday, bringing a lot of fixes, including the issue this thread is all about:
FIXED Excessively long wait times when saving/loading DAW projects containing Kontakt
So go to Native Access and update. Thanks for all the ones who helped out.

Hi everyone, I'm having similar issues and may have a theory : If you experience longer saving times, or loading times, or anything similar where things take longer than expected, try to check if the problematic Kontakt instances have been migrated from previous Kontakt versions. If this is the case, try rebuilding those instances from scratch in Kontakt 8 by manually loading the patches from the Kontakt new browser, and see if it makes a difference. In my case it does, a big one! I'm describing my issues with a Cubase template in this thread, but I think both cases might be connected.
Does standalone count as VST? I've experienced it in standalone too (saving a multi)
I am experiencing this with VST3 in Reaper as well. Save times are long and it takes just as long to close each windowed instance of Kontakt 8.
Has the newest update fixed the issue? I couldn't find anything in the patch notes and am not home this weekend so can't test this out. Hopeful though!
I am experiencing this too and it's good to know that I'm not the only one. Kontakt 8 is utterly useless to me due to this issue and I'm very close to asking for a refund on my upgrade.
No, it hasn't, the issue is still under investigation.
Before upgrading to Kontakt 8 VST3, I had no issues opening and saving Studio One v7 projects. However, now, my 19-track project with Kontakt instruments take almost a minute to load and/or save.

has there been any fix or workaround established? It’s been weeks and it’s make Kontakt 8 unusable. Thanks!
Thank you for the response! Relieved to know you are on it. Kontakt 8 is the only full version of Kontakt I own so I have been relying on it a lot.
Save times in Cubase have always been a problem with using lots of Kontakt Instances. It's the main reason I still use VE Pro. I'm having awful save times in some current Kontakt 8 projects but can't say if they're more awful than with 7. Still, this is should be remarkably easy to replicate by NI devs, as all it takes is loading 15-20 modern Kontakt instruments to see Cubase save times increase exponentially. I've found that the more complex the interface, the longer the save time. Particularly problematic plugins are Output Substance / Signal, and oddly Native Intruments Action Strikes. I typically see Cuabse writing 500mb/s to disk in task manager when saves are happening in these projects. Project file is only 80-100mb in my case so I have no idea what its doing. And last data point - save times always go way down if a track is disabled within Cubase. It would be HUGE if this were improved upon as it ultimately causes stability issues, not to mention a huge amount of lost time as I wait 1-2 minutes to see if the project will save or crash.
«mine are insanely worse with Kontakt 8. Basically unusable.»
Ok, yeah, save times are becoming wild here too, depending on which libraries I have open in K8. Disk usage in task manager peaks at 2,000mb a second while saving for 30-40 seconds. What the hell is it possibly doing pinging the drive that hard to save an 70mb project file?!?!
Just a +1 from me (using Cubase Pro 14). I am having the same issue with very, very long saving times after switching from Kontakt 7 to Kontakt 8. I hope there will be a solution soon. Needed to switch back to Kontakt 7 for that reason. Saving times of several minutes kills the work flow dramatically. Thank you.
It's conclusive that it's K8 which is the culprit and NI seem to be doing NOTHING about it. It's been released long enough and it's causing misery for many. Incredible.
Many complaints, different DAWs and computers, but one common denominator: KONTAKT 8. There are professionals who are depending on speed and efficiency, but NI is not being professional, at all, about resolving this ridiculous issue.
Same here on M4 Mini and Protools 2024.10.2. It took me several days to understand why my session hung up 20 seconds on each save, I had multiple instances of K7 and just a few of K8, at first I thought it was Acustica plugs or something else because K7 worked fine. Now I have reverted all the K8 to K7… uff…
