Can't "learn" midi even though controller shows up in preferences

I see my controller in the preferences, and I chose "port A".

Then, turned "on" the output.

However, when I load an instrument, (select omni)...and when I try to "learn" -nothing happens.

If I load Kontakt into Reaper it still doesn't work, but Reaper's "last-touched/learn" works fine.\

I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have!

if you go to the midi automation tab (not host automation) and you move a knob or fader, do you see a red dot before a cc number? Like you see here on a picture: https://www.native-instruments.com/ni-tech-manuals/kontakt-player-manual/en/the-browser#automation-tab
