Can anyone tell me why the update for instrument Noir 1.2.1 is so large at 17.19 GB, the original install on my Mac is already at 16 GB. Just wondering as the space on my Mac 4 mini is small and precious. Thanks in advance.

The update is tiny. The size you see there only applies to a fresh install.
My update took about a minute to complete.
