Kontakt 7 + Logic Pro 11.1 = No Display and Browser/Plug In buttons do not work on S61 MK3

Hi.

Kontakt 7.10.7

Logic Pro 11.1

M2 Pro Sequoia 15.3.1

When inserting Kontakt 7 in the Instrument slot in Logic Pro, the library browser on my S61 MK3 initially comes up and is functional. However, as soon as you select an instrument/preset, the display on my S61 MK3 changes to the last used MIDI template, and the Browser and Plug In buttons are not backlit or operable. The DAW button is still backlit and is operable. The instrument still plays, but I can only use the plugin on the computer to make any changes. I cannot go back to the library on my keyboard, and I cannot make any changes to the instrument's parameters or change presets on the S61 MK3

This behavior does not occur when using Kontakt in standalone. When Kontakt is in standalone, everything works fine.

I searched and could not find a specific thread that addresses this bug.

If you try Kontakt 8 or Komplete Kontrol in Logic, is the integration working?

Since oyu're on Sequoia, also check the following: TIP Sequoia adds an extra step when installing NI Hardware (Keyboards or Maschine) and Native Access

and finally if the issue is only in Logic try resetting Logic to default and delete the CS file as explained here: https://knowledge.apogeedigital.com/how-to-reset-logic-pro-trash-preferences

It may also possibly be this:

    USB-C Connectivity Issue:

    Problem:
Some computer chipsets made between 2020 and 2023 have a known USB-C error that can't be fixed. This can cause sporadic problems with USB-C peripherals like the Kontrol S MK3, including connection failures, freezing, or issues with firmware updates.

    Solution:
If you experience these issues, try using a USB-C hub between your Kontrol S MK3 and your computer. This can help avoid the problem and ensure a stable connection. This is critically important during firmware updates, as data loss could cause broken firmware. Make sure the hub supports both power and data transfer.

You could also try: Logic Pro > Control Surfaces > Rebuild Defaults

    I don't have Kontakt 8.

Yes, Logic, Kontakt, Komplete Kontrol, and Hardware Connection Service all have Full Disk Access.

NIHostIntegrationAgent and NTKDaemon have permission to access local network devices.

My keyboard is set by default to MIDI 1.0

I deleted the Logic Pro cache and preference files.

None of these helped. See additional post below.

I already connect my keyboard to my Mac through a powered USB-C hub. Komplete Kontrol works just fine. Kontakt worked just fine in Logic Pro with my keyboard prior to the most recent update.

I believe it rebuilt the control surfaces when deleting the Logic Pro preference files, but tried this nonetheless. I'm starting to realize that this behavior is far more complicated and bizarre than I realized. Let me explain.

When I sat down at the keyboard/computer tonight to try all of these suggestions, I initially tried to load up a Kontakt instrument, and randomly selected Deft Lines. As usual, the keyboard display briefly flashed the Deft Lines GUI and then switched to the Default MIDI template, while the Browser and Plug In buttons went dark. However, I closed Logic Pro and reloaded it, and this time selected the JA Choir instrument, and everything started working. Next, I pressed the Brower button, which worked and selected another instrument. This time, it loaded the new instrument GUI on the display, but voiced both the new instrument as well as the JA Choir at the same time. I tried several instruments, and this behavior persisted. I shut down Logic Pro again, reloaded it. This time, it worked properly. …until I selected Vocal Colors. A particular preset, Blips on Air, crashed Logic Pro every time I played F#4. I did repeated this 3 times.

I then went through all of @Jeremy_NI suggestions above. After which, everything went back to my original problem with the display not working when loading a Kontakt instrument in Logic Pro. And that is still where it remains.

Thank your creating the ticket with IT after uploading the System Report. I received the response below yesterday, which is deeply concerning to me:

The problem here is, I think, that you need Kontakt 8. The KK MK3 and Kontakt compatibility works with Kontakt 8 latest version.

I added a test license to your account.

You can instal it now via Native Access.

Can you give it a try? This would be nice of you. Thanks in advance.

He is suggesting that my problem is that my MK3 keyboard is suddenly no longer compatible with Kontakt of any version earlier than the new one. I don't know what the limitations of a test license are. I have asked, but have not yet received a response. Is it like a demo version? Does it become inoperable after a certain period of time? But to be clear, I was not planning on updating to Kontakt 8. It seems unacceptable that the combination of MK3 keyboard + Logic Pro + Kontakt 7 has suddenly become an incompatible combination. Maybe this person is just incorrect; I certainly hope so.
